Hopefully "be like Bethesda" means become a highly-successful RPG developer, as opposed to systematically pumping out buggy sandbox games.

is it that nintendo fans have higher quality bench marks than fans of the hd twins, because ive seen quite a few of those remarks in this thread.

do nintendo fans have better game taste, or at least have higher expectations on games in general?

Not better taste per se, but definitely different. I don't think it has to do with Nintendo fans though. Monolith is probably the hottest JRPG developer at the moment, and saying "we want to be like a WRPG developer", particularly one that gets the level of vitrol that Bethesda must deal with, is going to make some fans upset.

yeah, but i doubt theyll try to make games like bethesda. they also said that they wanted to show japanese developers that they can keep up with their western counter parts, and release high quality japanese games.

just gotta add that xenoblade really deserves much better sales than it has. nintendo should have locolized it much earlier

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Makes sense, Xenoblade was basically a JRPG take on Western RPG conventions, and I mean that in a good way. Might be my favorite RPG this Gen period (Mass Effect 1 also holds a special spot in my heart.)

I think its good if japanese developer try to take the good elements of western developer and make them their own.

I think Bethesda is really good at creating seamless vast worlds with detailed places which tell storys via environments. I always like it when their worlds have a visible history and a lot of background infos which just exists because its a world and stuff happened. It makes it more interesting to me. Combine that with the unusual japanese fantasy and interesting characters and it will be big. Square should do that too.

A lot of you missed the point -_-

I think they were just using them as an example for the kind of work they do... Bethesda is thought to be one of the best developers so its only fitting for them to use them as an example. They sure wouldn't use Naughty Dog or any other Sony company

I think they were just saying, they want to create a game that creates as much awe as Skyrim did. Say what you will of Skyrim, but it is GIANT. When you play it, the scope of the world will really hit you. It does a lot of other things right as well. I think they are essentially saying: "We want to create and RPG as grand and exciting as Skyrimy. Kudos to them for wanting to make a super ambitious title.

So they want to make broken games? Ok.

Considering how fantastic Xenoblade was, I'd say they are on the right path.
