i want to ask nintendo owners something and im not trying to bash or attack nintendo, if you want to argue with me please just ignore my post and move on. my question is, dont you nintendo owners sometimes get bored with nintendo news? the reason im saying this is because there is never element of surprise, it always a matter of "when" not "what" games will be released? dont you guys want something new? does it have to be the same games everytime? looking at that poll its just the same thing for over 20 years now you can say.

again not trying to start shit, just an honest question. since nintendo consoles are known for little 3rd party support people buy it for its 1st party games only, so i want to know the opinion of nintendo only owners

Nintendo always has new IPs here and there. Some quite good some just ok. However, there is nothing wrong with the classic IPs as they ALWAYS get redone in fascinating new ways with new ideas and surprising additions. That's exactly why Mario is still awesome while pretty much every other nonNintendo IP from the 2D era has fallen out of anyone's radar.

There is surprise... it may not be in the name of the game or the primary character(s) involved. But it exists in what environment, gameplay, and specific challenges lay ahead.

Kirby star fox or metroid next year holiday season. Zelda 2 years from now shown at E3.

I want it to be the next Metroid game but it will probably be Mario Party :(

i wont get into nintendo's first party offerings as thats not really my point, because for example, a 3d mario is still a 3d mario even if its better and plays completely differently it will never come as a surprise to people that its coming. and there are new IP's here and there from nintendo no doubt, but they arent pushed heavily by nintendo, for example when was the last time nintendo really surprised people with what they are doing like sony did with the last of us? again im not talking about quality, but excitment for something new. wouldnt it be awesome if the same team that makes the 3d mario's are allowed to create something completly new?

@ super chunk

good points!!! I couldn't have said it better myself!!! Nintendo's franchise are always innovative! Look at mario 3d platformers Mario64 evolved into 3D (other great games too DK 64, Metroid prime) and then SM sunshine (not the best in the series) was different and SMG was genius IMO!

@bananaking

Its your oppinion, everyone should respect, im the type of person game or show that doesn't want it to end!!! Is that a bad thing? No of course but i do get what your coming from but the thing is i want star fox (last one was years ago and the ds version was not good), Pikmin omg tis game is addictive and we haven't got a new one since 8 years ago!!!

I personally dont like remakes EX: LoZ OoT on 3ds!!! Do i hate it? No, but i rather have a new game and new experience! But others rather have a remake to enjoy upgrades and the original game again!!! If anyone gets mad about someone's oppinion then there being ignorant unless there being trolled!!! So don't worry!!!

@Banana king

I agree at some point! Instead of a mario here and there it would be cool to have a new ip!!! Some franchise's however need a wii u title!!! I MEAN NEED ONE!!! EX: Starfox, F-Zero need it the most!!! last release was gamecube (not counting that terrible star fox ds)

You can ask the same thing for just about any long-running gaming series. New entries always get people excited, even if they're expected.

Anyway, I think either a new 3D Mario and/or a new Retro game will come first. I think Retro ought to do their own non-Metroid action-adventure game like they had planned back in the GC days (maybe without aliens though).

exactly, and thats my point, dont nintendo only owners sometimes get bored of not having that excitment and new experience? once or twice a gen isnt really enough if you ask me, for example on my ps3 i had that new experience or hype with uncharted, assasins creed, red dead redemption, heavy rain, little big planet and many more. my point is since there is limited 3rd party support it really limits that "new experience" factor or feeling

@banana king

I could say the same
LoZ twilight princess, LoZ skyward sword,DK returns, Metroid prime 3, Trilogy, Other M, Xenoblade, Sonic Colors, SSBB,Mk7, SMG, SMG2, Kirby, Fire Emblem, SPM, RE4, RE chronicles(two games), Tales of Symphonia, Arc rise Fantasia, Red Steel, Sin and Punishment, Zack and Wiki, All the wii sports,resort,etc....

Like I said i kno where ya coming from but everyone got their own appeals! My most played games beside for SSBM and SSBB is Halo 3 and i enjoyed that and i dont own an Xbox!!! Sometimes people just like certain games EX COD!!!, and want it to continue!!!

Well there is an element of surprise...of course Nintendo IPs are more or less always based more or less on the same characters. but it's not like all the games are the same.

Mario Galaxy for example had a big surprise element. Of course, it was obvious Nintendo was going to make another Mario game sooner or later, but no one was expecting something like that. It's still a 3D Mario game, but it's completely different from its predeccessors, and before you saw it, the whole idea of Super Mario in space would hve sounded odd if not dumb

Also, not every Nintendo IP gets a proper entry on every console, Metroid skipped the N64, Pikmin skipped the Wii, Donkey Kong Counrty Return was a comeback after 15 years, right now a lot of people are asking a true spiritual successor of Starfox64 (another 15 years old game), and F-zero (the last one was in 2003). Now, it's true a sequel of a very old IP is not something unprecedented like a completely new IP, but after many years a sequel could still feel fresh. Let me ask you a question: if tomorrow Naughty Dog announces a sequel to Crash Bandicoot or to Jak & Daxter, wouldn't you be anticipating it? I guess you would (so would I anyway).

As for the question of "don't you whant something new?" My personal opinion is that games are not like a books or movies. If you see 6 sequels of the same movie you know it will inevitably get old, games don't get old if developers are able to make them better, and to add somthing that will make them feel fresh, Nintendo is particulary good in doning so, imo. That said, I welcome new IPs but I don't whant them just for the sake of getting something new. Very often a new IP doesn't feel fresh at all to me, and in other cases I see new IPs are just replicating old concepts and making them worse. Of course in other cases I get superb games like Demon's Souls.

In other words my top priority is to get great games, my second priority is to get games that feel fresh, getting a new IP may be 3rd priority, since a game can be great and feel fresh even if it's not a new IP. Anyway, I prefer Nintendo but I have all consoles maybe if was an only-Nintendo owner I would be pissed...but I'm not. so I don't know :P

Check 3DS eshop for new Nintendo IPs.  Let me list them for you... Pushmo/Crashmo, Sakura Samurai, Ketzal's Corridors, Dillon's Rolling Western, etc.
