Forums - Gaming - FOX NEWS on MASS EFFECT Sex Debate

That gave 360 great publicity. Probably sold more copies of Mass Effect and 360... It will just make people that don't have the game want it more...

Around the Network

wow, if that was not the most one sided point of view I have ever seen. I have always hated fox news. What a crock of pathetic conservative bs.

1. It is rated MA which is = to R. R rated movies show and do a whole lot more than Mass Effect, Man Hunt 2, and any other MA rated game has ever done.

2. It is up to the individual parent to decide, not some conservative religious board of rightest idiots that are no different than those in the countries we call our enemies.

Movies show far more and are easier to access.

yeah. That's pretty much Fox news for you. I'm actually surprised they didn't bring on Jack Thompson.

So next time VGC screws up on software sales ala CoD4 I guess its cool for folks to just say "Thats pretty much VGC for you"? Lets get serious. Out of all of the news outletts I get news from Fox easily has the best and most thorough coverage. I disagree with a lot of the slanted crap their anchors and reporters say but its just as bad as what I hear on CNN, BBC, or MSNBC and the like, the only difference is that its slanted the other way.

If you don't like the story then just say so, making this about Fox is just a copout for dealing with the issue. Rather than discussing the topic you're just blaming the good'ole safe thing to blame on the internet. And frankly I'm getting tired of the lemming approach to politics that people seem so content with. Lets hear what you have to say about the issue!

@topic,

First of all, there were really only two people who were off base imo. The psychology chick who basically decided she was only going to accept the studies that say what she wants them to say (and there are studies for both cases), and the chick who thought the game should be "AO".

The rest of these folks were doing exactly what a lot of people on this forum have said they should do...and that is keep this stuff out of the hands of their children. If you have kids in the house you probably shouldn't have this game where they can have access to it, and thats just good parenting. As long as we are going to use the ESRB it doesn't make sense to get bent out of shape when parents actually follow the guideline. The only reason this game garnered national attention was the sex scene which really this is the first major release to have interactive sexual scenes, so it was bound to get some coverage.

Basically my position is this: If they are avoiding the game because they have kids then thats good parenting. But if they want to condemn the game because it has sex then they need to pull their head out of their ass and realize that its a part of life and hiding from it isn't going to change anything.

Just remember that while to us it seems like they are completely without the facts here, to them we are completely missing the underlying point. Its a fundamental difference in viewpoints really. But...I still think the screwed up the story.

PS - I still lub you stof~

The hell? What makes you think I'm basing it all off this article? Fox News doesn't have a shred of credibility to their name. You know why I said "I'm suprised they didn't bring on Jack Thompson"? Because the day of the Virginia tech school shooting, they had Jach Thompson on as a "School Shooting Expert" And while he tiraded against video games stating that that was the most likely cause, not a single person thought to ask if there was any evidence the guy ever played videogames.

Fox News is the most biased, sensationalistic, yellow journalism predisposed, popularist propagandist tool on the air.

John Gibson, Bill O'reily, Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter shouldn't be allowed within 200 feet of a microphone let alone be given prominence. And it's even corrupted other stations, as CNN has let Lou Dobbs off his leash in an attempt to compete.

There really is no way to defend that joke of a station. This ME story is just a small, lesser example of their lunacy.

PS - I still lub you Sqrl... sort of.

Are CNN mimicking the style of FOX News? If so, that has got to be the beginning of the end for real journalism in the USA.

I was trying to point out how quickly people twist these topics to another issue. How rather than have a discussion about the topic they are twisted into Fox-bashing session regardless of what was actually said or happened and it quickly becomes a foaming rant on Fox news...again.  And your responce to my pointing that out was to move further down that road, presumably in spite.

I honestly think that the only difference between your post and one that would get any member banned is a few interchangeable words from Fox to [console name]. In all Honesty the post seems like its coming from a completely different person.

@Thompson side issue:  I am aware of what JT did on Fox news, and I think its beyond ridiculous.  I also think it is beyond ridiculous that when a news outlet brings on a pundit they should instantly be attributed as sharing the views of that pundit. I'm sure all of the people you mentioned as "shouldn't be allowed within 200 feet of a microphone" have been on other major networks before...so by that logic we should condemn all of those networks and papers that allowed them to give their viewpoint also right?  Or maybe we should just place responsibility for a person's statements on that person alone?  That makes a helluva lot more sense to me. Aside from that, looking at this issue specifically I just don't see how pointing to a single whackjob that got on Fox a couple of times even begins to form a coherant argument to support your last post.

I will say they deserve to catch flack for allowing thompson to misrepresent himself, but given the last-second nature of the segment I have a hard time seeing that as anything but a less than minor issue at best.

As for the PS, I wasn't explicit but I was attempting to keep the mood light because I don't like politics effecting the overall gaming debates and I try to forget what people's politics are when discussing other topics with them.  If thats not the case with you then let me know, so I know what to expect.

PS - For the record I wasn't looking for a fight here, although in retrospect I could've been far more diplomatic about it.  But you'll have to excuse me if I am a bit annoyed that after I said that I trust Fox just as much as any other network you explicitly ratcheted up the attacks.  I can't take that as anything but a personal attack.  I knew you disagreed with me but the last thing I expected was for you to be outright insulting which you most certainly were. If I had posted a similarly insulting and disrespectful post in responce to you how would you have taken it? What would you have done?

Alright. I'll try and take a less argumentative tone on this. But I do take several issues with what your saying. First off, you state that you took issue with my twisting this thread into an anti fox news story... But that was kind of the point. The whole issue was that fox news did a hatchet job of a story. As many people feel that is common for Fox to do, there's nothing out of place for stating so.

I honestly think that the only difference between your post and one that would get any member banned is a few interchangeable words from Fox to [console name]. In all Honesty the post seems like its coming from a completely different person.

I really didn't think it was that bad. I didn't use any vulgarities or insult intelligence, I just pointed out some problems with Fox News

@Thompson side issue: I am aware of what JT did on Fox news, and I think its beyond ridiculous. Those other people I mentioned - John Gibson, Bill O'reilly, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter and Mike Covuto (ok, I added him in after) aren't just pundits who've appeared on the network, They have shows on it! In fact, Bill O'Reilly is Fox News' biggest personality. He's the guy that presents Fox News's "Talking Points". The List of their transgressions are as long as my leg. So why don't I just put the responsibility on that person alone? Because Fox News gives them their shows. I think it's perfectly reasonable to blame those responsible for giving these hacks a podium to spew their nonsense from.

I will say they deserve to catch flack for allowing thompson to misrepresent himself, but given the last-second nature of the segment I have a hard time seeing that as anything but a less than minor issue at best.

I think it's pretty standard protocall at a national network to at least know something about the "experts" they bring on the show. And I think it's safe to say they didn't do any sort of check at all, or they'd have known that their "expert" was first made famous when he demanded to know if Janet Reno was a lesbian or not.

As for the PS, I wasn't explicit but I was attempting to keep the mood light because I don't like politics effecting the overall gaming debates and I try to forget what people's politics are when discussing other topics with them. Alright, on this one I'm sorry. I honestly didn't mean any of that to be personal. Even the "I lub you... sorta" was meant in a light hearted way. The "The hell?" was legitimate suprise. I generally don't get angry on the internet since it's the internet and all. I hope we can still be friends or at least maintain an akward pleasant nature when in eachother's company. I'd hate for this to spoil the next VG Christmas party.

Wait, you mean you didn't know about the last VG Christmas party? HAHA, you weren't invited you loser! Go cry while watching Fox News!

Damn I'm cruel

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.
