Forums - Nintendo - Westernized games: Will Japan care about them on the Wii U?

I hope not. My wish is that Japan uses Wii U as the outlet for their games. Japan always gets overlooked on ps360. To have a console where Japanese games will get face time would be awesome.

I really don't get what you are saying at all...

The 3DS is selling great - okay.
People trust Nintendo - sure.

Because of this they will start buying games they don't enjoy as much? Have any western games even flourished on the 3DS in Japan? None that I'm aware of. I just don't see the translation here.

Maybe NINJA GAIDEN 3, but I don't see the same thing happening for the other titles. Then again, in spite of ME3's opening sales, it's not like the METrilogy did any better; in fact, both the XBox360 and PS3 each sold less.

Wii U will be huge in Japan, but it'll be because of games like Monster Hunter and Dragon Quest. If Western third-parties manage to release Japanese versions of their games early enough in the system's life cycle, there may be an opportunity. But realistically, Western publishers need to embrace an all-inclusive design philosophy if they want serious recognition in Japan (outside of niche circles). It's not surprising that the all-time best-selling Western games in Japan are platformers.

Ninja Gaiden 3 - yes

Mass Effect 3 and Batman - lol no.

how is ninja gaiden westernized though? IDGI, aside from 3 being not very good. I guess if you consider western games not very good maybe this fits. But, Didn't Ninja Gaiden and DMC come out before say GOW. Why would it be considered westernized?

I hope Japanese developers develop Japanese-esqe games on the consoles. I don't want them to start developing Call of Duty/Gears of War clones. There's enough 1st/3rd person shooter/action games made by western developers. I want Japan to develop more quirky crazy and amazing games as they do. If that means western games doing poorly in Japan, then so be it. But if they sell well and don't change Japanese developers' design direction to more western style, then that's great.

Ninja Gaiden 3 and Mass Effect 3 will get love, doubt Batman will.

A Japanese version of Scribblenauts Unlimited has a better chance (although, I suspect due to the language barrier, they won't see such a game until summer 2013 at earliest.

Who cares?

It's the fact that Japanese games are falling out of favor outside of Japan that worries me. I want Japanese games not made by Nintendo to once again rule the west, but sadly that will never happen.

I hope they do buy these kind of games, but to be honest i`m not sure it will happen.
This was one of the things that bothered my about the Wii U launch in Japan when they were announced. It seems to have too many western type games and few games the japanese audience will be interested in.
