Handhelds definitely destroyed the JRPGs "last" gen. Not sure which I played more RPGs on (DS or PSP) but damn did they make this gen bearable.

No, I'm not interested in any of those games, nor have I heard of them. I must not be a JRPG fan then, thanks for telling me.

I'm sorry, I have to disagree here. The PSP was/is the king of JRPGs. You got all the Persona series, Tactic Ogre, all the great FInal Fantasy remakes, Ys, Growlancer and one my favorite Lunar and that's just a small list. PSP will go down as one of the best RPGs system of all time only behind PS1.
BTW: PS3/360 JRPGs are not even close of being the best. PSP>DS>>>>>>Wii>360>PS3 in terms of JRPGs. And the Vita is having a great start!

There are better RPGs coming to the 3DS already than iOS/Android... |
I doubt that.
Go look up what Square-Enix has been releasing to mobiles. They're increasing what they're doing, and sales are really picking up for their offerings. The tipping point for their catalog on mobiles outselling handhelds is getting close, sans maybe Dragon Quest (which hasn't been released on iOS, AFIAK).
And that doesn't preclude the other 100 developers out there with WRPGs and JRPGs for iOS and Android.
Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
Yeah it was, DS was a beast. I've got quite a big backlog of RPGs to get through on the DS. One of the best consoles ever, it's up there with the PS2 and SNES.

Handhelds in general held down the RPG front and hopefully, 8th gen will see more RPGs than last gen, because they are one of my fav genres. Also, add in Golden Sun to that long list on DS.
Estelle and Adol... best characters ever! XD

There are quite a few good WRPGs on iOS and Android. Baldur's Gate was just announced for Android, which is pretty big.
Outside of Infinity Blade, there are some very epic (50+hr) RPGs like the Arvenum series. Then you have the Ravensword series, which is an open world first person RPG like Skyrim and the like, but for iOS.
Feel free to look through the hundreds of iOS RPG reviews from Touch Arcade. You may be surprised which ones you like:
