SEGA has teamed up with the studio behind the Total War series, Creative Assembly, to enter into a multi-title licensing deal with Games Workshop.

As a result of the deal, a new development team has been set up at Creative Assembly's UK studio to work on the first of several games based in the popular Warhammer universe, which is due to release sometime after 2013.

Tim Heaton, Studio Director at Creative Assembly, said, "The incredibly rich and detailed Warhammer world is something we grew up with, and has left an indelible imprint on us as both designers and gamers.

"We’ll be doing the Warhammer universe justice in a way that has never been attempted before."

Creative Assembly now has quite a lot on its plate; this new Warhammer game is the fifth project in production at the studio, joining the likes of Total War: Rome II and an as-yet-untitled Alien IP.

Well I for one am excited!!

Yeah, I'd love to see them tackle fantasy battles with orcs, elves and dwarfs and magic and all that cool shit!

Sounds really cool, I am hoping the game turns out really good.

Awesome news but I hope it doesn't mean Relic is losing the right to make warhammer games.

If they make it similar to Spartan and Viking and use 40k: FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

I wouldn't mind. I thought the original Dawn Of War games were great, but wasn't impressed with the more recent Dawn of War II and Space Marine.

I think the background, lore and content is all there,  in the hands of a stronger studio something truly amazing could be produced.

It is different from that. This means they can make Warhammer games, not Warhammer 40k. Warhammer 40k is still being done by Relic. Confused me a little too.
