Really seems odd that Halo 4 is missing.
I voted for Journey. It's the only one that I've played and it was glorious. Bit on the short side though, but it's the same thing I'd attribute to Portal 2 - perfect for what it was.
If I was VGA Advisory Council member, my vote for the game of the year would go to:
Assassin's Creed 3 | 9 | 11.11%
Dishonored | 7 | 8.64% | |
Journey | 38 | 46.91% | |
Mass Effect 3 | 19 | 23.46% | |
The Walking Dead: The Game | 8 | 9.88%
Total: | 81 |

I'm sad to say I haven't gotten to any on the list -- still working through my backlog -- but I'm surprised at the nominees.
Some snubbed games, at least according to critical consensus:
Mass Effect 3
Trials Evolution
Borderlands 2
Halo 4
Max Payne 3
Xenoblade Chronicles (is that eligible?)
Kid Icarus Uprising
No Halo 4?
From the list Mass Effect 3 beats out AC: III.
Sorry Connor.
