The thing is, those people buying UC3 are not necessarily buying it because they want it. It comes with a ps3, so they might as well buy it. Many of those people will barely even play the game, and some may not even play it at all. And UC3 being part of a bundle also provides some advertising for the game. Gears 3, on the other hand, is not bundled with anything. So only people who want to actually buy gears 3, will actually buy gears 3. And for the most part, gears 3 is not being advertised anymore. 

Ridicilous. Who is dumb enough not to play the game that comes with his/her console? Gears 3 is one of the most heavily bundled games Ive seen, atleast here in Europe.

First of all, I said some. Which does not mean many. But there are definitely kids out there just want to play COD, or some other game. I've seen it myself. While a parent may buy a ps3 bundle that includes UC3, the kid receiving already views the ps3 as a CODstation.

Gears 3 was bundled, massively at launch. Those bundles moved hundreds of thousands of units.

Don't worry, Uncharted 3 isn't advertised anymore either.

A limited edition bundle that costs $100 more than the console otherwise, versus a bundle that costs the same as the equivalent ps3 without any games. 

People who bought the gears of war 3 bundle bought it because they wanted to buy gears of war 3 and get a cool matching console. People who bought the ps3 bundle bought it because why not get a free game with your ps3.

Heck even the launch day uncharted 3 bundle was just a normal priced 320gig ps3 with uncharted included for free. And btw that 320gig uncharted 3 ps3 has been selling this entire year for $300. This is equivalent to microsoft fans showing off that forza and fable games are selling really well. Yes some microsoft fans do it, but it's still silly to show off. These games aren't selling amazingly well. Microsoft and Sony are just doing a good job giving them out for free. 
Let me put it this way, fable III and Forza MotorSport 3, are both owned by more people than God of War III. But neither sold as well as god of war III.

Actually the U3 PS3 bundle isn't free, it added $20 to the basic PS3 model. So it retaiels for $269.99.
People who want a cheap PS3 can still buy one of the old slims for $250 without any game.

That launch bundle hasn't sold well, have you seen it in stores? I haven't. Even on the online stores, its way too low on the charts to make much of an impact on sales.
