People here aren't that stupid...can't be.

Why is this stupid?

Its been known for a while now that WiiU CPU is discussed by devs as a "enhanced" Wii CPU. This clearly is that.

Its the same architecture... twice as fast... on top of being 3 cores vs 1. Considering the physical size of the CPU we've actually seen and measured... it makes 100% sense. I was actually thinking it would be closer to say 2.5GHz, but yeah its Nintendo.

See my comparison thread for more info. Its been updated.

Went questioned about the CPU being idle or not.

he is quoted saying I can't say because it's not leaks but a hack. This is obviously avoidness of what the question being asked probably because he is bsing.

also looking at his twitter page he has lots of troll retweets from troll accounts.

not very trustworthy.

Marcan is legit.

If you want to stay in the river of denial though, feel free.

Watson, super computer, googly moogly, something something.

Seeing as it can't answer a simple question I hardy think he still gots it.

"Maybe (the CPU speed is) a little bit (lower than 360/PS3). "

The guy if he is legit must talking idle being 1.2 isn't a little under clocked compared to 3.2.

Lets use some common sense here guys.

well 1.2 x 3 is 3.6 so...

lol

Hmm this chip would fit nicely into a smartphone/tablet or a 4DS.

So much for "makes up with it with clock speed". Definitively slower in both clock speed and (if PPC750) instructions per clock compared to the 360.

It's now time to use the Wii U ports as a positive example: despite how slow the CPU is, they can make a game look about as good as the 360 because of the GPU. But it's also therefore time to stop saying that Wii U will eventually be far ahead of 360.

I thought we already established that in another thread by just looking at the die size though lol. I still don't think 8th gen consoles will be that far ahead TBH, most high profile games in 7th gen can't even reach 720P 60FPS(actually, prolly no high profile game does this) and we might get there finally in 8th gen and I'm hoping 1080P stable 30FPS, not sure about 60FPS in 1080P though, lets see what they'll throw into the Durango and Orbis even though I still find it unlikely for them to run something like Planetside 2 or Battlefield 3 in their full glory on rumored hardware @1080P 60FPS so far.

We did but there are some very angry people who've denied that transistor count proves anything and/or that it'd be clocked high.

I think with 2x the cost (~$150 Wii U console vs $300 others) and 2-3x the power usage, other 8th gen consoles can be much faster if they so choose. It's a tradeoff Nintendo chose to make and MS/Sony may make differently.

Pretty horrible, but not surprising.
Wii U ports will be plagued by performance issues by this CPU + slow RAM. GPU is the only thing good about this system but the CPU/RAM are the bottlenecks.

No chance in hell I'm paying $60 for any multi-plat on the Wii U that's on the PS4/720, sorry Nintendo. Even if the only difference is the PS4/720 versions run in 1080p versus the Wii U one being in 720p ... nope. I work hard for my money, not going to piss it away on even a moderately downscaled version.

Who really cares anyway. I buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games. Been that way for 15 years now, Wii U was unlikely to ever change that.

Third parties don't give a sh*t about Nintendo. Of the entire third party community the only company that showed up with exclusives were Ubi Soft, and that's with two (by their own admission) low budget projects.

1) all the games you play now are like 500p or 640p native

2) the WiiU still scales them up to 1080p

3) I'd bet you'll likely never notice a difference, just like people don't see a difference between PS360 now even though in almost every game, especially early in the gen, 360's were technically superior. (only talking about 3rd party ports of course)

Fact is... with WiiU you get Nintendo IP and you'll likely get all AAA3rd party content in a fashion that will be for all purposes identical.

1) What? Examples, please.

2) Most TVs scale up to 1080p. What's the difference there?

3) No difference between Wii U and 720/PS4? We'll certainly see about that...lol

This is Wii repeating itself all over again. Buy it for the first party, but don't expect 3rd parties to do much.

1) Halo 3 is the most prominent one that comes to mind.

2) GPU will always scale better than a TV, and some TVs won't take  500p as an input resolution.

3) We will see indeed.  If sony is using an AMD trinity chip for their CPU and GPU, it won't be that much better at gaming than WiiU.  Microsoft could probably blow both out of the water if they wanted to, though.

1.2 thats pretty sad. nintendo said it was clocked at 3.0 lol

Nintendo never said anything about Wii U specs.

I'm also wondering about what kind of hack allowed him access to this information. There's one of 2 possibilities:

1) He hacked into WiiU mode, and wrote homebrew to report the clock speeds of CPU and GPU.

2) He used the already vulnerable vWii and made the same query.

Both situations have a very interesting big picture meaning. If 1) is true, then WiiU mode is hackable and possibly heavily exploitable. But if 2) is true, it means that the vWii isn't a secure sandbox and that access to the extra hardware features are possible from within Wii mode.

Either are exciting prospects.

Speaking of vWii vulnerability, do you know of any methods to get Homebrew Channel working on there again? My save file for Zangeki no Reginleiv migrated over, but obviously i can't play the game at the moment (not that i really need to, with NSMBU still to finish, a few more days of tooling around in Nintendoland, then Ninja Gaiden, then Batman, then Link to the Past that i bought with the last of my virtual console moneys, then the gifted copy of KOTOR II... I just want to know that i can in the future)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

This guy is not a nobody, he's very well known in the world of hacking. He practically wrote the book on hacking the Wii. Someone earlier in the thread explained his credentials better.

So we probably won't know till E3. Personally I can't wait for Super Mario Galaxy U (or whatever the new 3D mario is)
