Forums - Nintendo - Report: GameStop Cancelling Wii U Waiting List

This thread is a disaster. The news is what it is guys. And it's funny exactly who the people are trying so desperately and adamantly to "prove" that the story is wrong with such a great deal of effort. This is crazy!

High availability indeed ... The only retailer reporting stock is the same retailer that the report is suggesting has a waiting list they can't satisfy; and that could mean that they're selling units they don't have, or that their site has an error that it is demonstrating an item in stock that isn't available. Ultimately, the Wii U is sold out, will likely stay sold out for the rest of the year, and only has to average 125,000 per week for the rest of the year in North America to have the best initial holiday season of any console; something that seems possible if Nintendo can ship enough units.

Or to put it another way, it will likely take Nintendo 2 to 3 weeks to sell as many Wii U systems as Sony sold PS3s in 2006; and probably 3 or 4 weeks to sell as many systems as Sony sold PS-Vita's in 9 months.

Strange list.  Amazon doesn't sell the Wii U, so I'm not sure how it could be out of stock, much less "Stock goes FAST!".  They do allow third party sellers, though, of which there are hundreds.

Also, why would you compare it to the Vita's launch?  Just for the general jerkyness of it?

What makes you think Amazon doesn't sell the Wii U?

As for the Vita and PS3, I was doing that because LeoJ is one of the biggest Sony fanboys around ... He can't claim that the Wii U is doing poorly without also admitting that the PS3 was doing abysmally when it launched, or that the PS-Vita was comparitively DOA

i can only speak for myself but

1 - 32 Gb is a joke.   really bad joke at that.  i'd get a minimum of 500 Gb external so 32 vs. 8 is the difference between terrible and really terrible.

2 - not my bag, don't want it at any price.

3 - meh.  i'm indifferent personally.

4 - i can get that but there aren't that many games on e-shop yet.  how much would you save if you bought the entire catalog of games?

Well, at this point, I have a 500GB external HDD and a 32GB Wii U and.....I have absolutely no idea what to use it for.  I got Mighty Switch Force downloaded from the eShop and that's it.  There's no movie service, no place to store pics, no music service, no option for game installs, no DLC (to my knowledge--and I even have Call of Duty), and my Wii library is stored on the SD card that I used with my original Wii.

My original 20GB Xbox 360 lasted a full year (with only 16GB useable of that 20GB!) and you KNOW I'm a download fanatic.  32GB will probably last me for a long time.  Many other gamers, too.  I'm just saying.

I think your 4th post kinda confirms it.

yeah but the games will come.  nintendo will have day-1 digital releases just like xbox and ps3 do and things will fill up fast.  it took me a few years to do but i've hit the top of my 500 Gb ps3 drive.   what i never want to do again is that painful upgrade from when i maxed out my 80 Gb. ...that's a crap load of data to redownload.

I wasn't saying that those were good reasons for you, just good reasons for other people.

1 - I never said that 32GB were a good amount, but it is better than  8GB

2 and 3 are here just to remember that both are reasons for someone to choose, i know you are not one of them, but there are A LOT of people that would care about those reasons

4 - This goes until december 2014, not 2012. seriously you don't think this is a good deal!!!?

You asked the difference and i gave you 4, it doesn't matter if you don't care to them

and i started by saying "i can only speak for myself".  but honestly, anyone who doesn't particularly want nintendoland i think the basic is still the better deal financially speaking.  i guess i'm just surprised at how much more desirable the delux seems to be.   a 50% attach rate would be ridiculous for most games so i'm surpised half the consumers wouldn't just prefer the basic as I would.

FYI: Amazon is not actually selling the Wii U, those are other people/companies if you look at who has it available, and MANY times what is available on Amazon may also be available from the same company on ebay.

Is your statement accurate? How many day 1 digital releases does the 360 have? I was under the impression that MS did not have that many day 1 digital releases (talking FULL retail games) as one would think.

To your #4 point, there are infact many full retail games available for download immediately, I dare say the exception so far are the few games that you can not download.

It is beyond odd that people's testimonies about high Wii U availability happen to align perfectly with their console loyalties.

I'm not actually certain what Amazon is or is not selling at the moment, I do know that Amazon does sell videogame consoles and was selling the PS3 and Wii at launch ...

Beyond that, my lists were from a couple of tracking firms which specialize in products that are "sold out". From my understanding they make money by being an affiliate of a lot of large online retailers because when someone clicks on their links and buys a product they get a small commission. These sites are generally set up by hand, finding the products on the site and entering into their tracking program, and then updated as the server checks these sites several times a minute to see if the availability has changed.

In my opinion it is likely that Amazon does sell the Wii U but since it is sold out they're only listing it as being available through re-sellers who're tied into Amazon. If Amazon had it in stock it would display:

In Stock.
Ships from and sold by Amazon.com. Gift-wrap available.

Like it does with other consoles.

With that said, it is entirely possible that Amazon won't sell the Wii U until Nintendo can meet demand and these two seperate tracking sites are just monitoring the site for no real reason.

I was first on the waiting list at my Gamestop and they called me launch day stating they had another deluxe version. So I was able to get one day 1.

Well that's how it is. People tend to see things the way they want, and it's all relative. A store having 2 Basic models and 1 Deluxe means tight supplies and big demand for one person but another will see it as Wii U being available everywhere and demand being low.
