Forums - Sony - Pachter: PS4 Launch Date Is October Or November 2013

Tagged games:

Not surprising. If you look at the release window of most of the big games for this gen, they're all coming out Q1 and Q2 2013. No other logical reason for this would be that next gen consoles are releasing at the end of 2013.

I am the Playstation Avenger.

If Pachter said that, it means that it will be released late 2014.

Haha.

But honestly I agree with him.

If The Last Guardian is indeed still in development, It must have been moved to the PS4 by now.

- 4GB RAM, 1.8 TFLOP AMD GPU (28nm) on APU design, x4 USB 3.0 slots, Blu-Ray drive.

- $399.99 base (32GB flash), $499.99 Deluxe (1TB HDD + game included).

- HDDs are now proprietary Sony brand, flash drives up to 64GB are supported.

- GoogleTV functionality.

- Can wirelessly send a video signal to Vita or smartphone screen or tablet (iPad, Nexus, etc.) for off-TV play.

- New Dual Shock Move controller, splits apart and can be used like a dual handed Dual Shock, or recombined to function as a regular Dual Shock pad.

- November 2013 Launch Date. Battlefield 4, Cod Modern Warfare 4, Grand Theft Auto V, Star Wars 1313, Watch Dogs, Ridge Racer, as launch titles, 2-3 titles from Sony internally. Uncharted Trilogy HD coming in 1080P HD.

Sounds plausable. One thing Sony must ensure is that they get the Orbis out before the NextBox. If not, then Sony have little hope.

I think they're both on a collision course to launch next November. Should be interesting, first time Sony and MS have directly launched against each other.

Oh yeah, I'll add this -- Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, PS4 launch title (higher spec version timed exclusive for PS4 launch window, also available on PS3/360). MS will counter with some huge announcement of their own.

Hmm Maybe a Halo 4 higher spec version. Micrsoft screwed themselves over for a Halo 5 at launch.

My guess is 720's premiere launch game will be the Destiny project from Bungie, which it sounds like be timed exclusive for 720/360 first and is aimed for launch in fall 2013.

I think you could see something like a new Left 4 Dead for the 720 launch as well.

If anyone gets a headstart it will be Microsoft.

Still, hopefully when Sony launches in 2014 they'll have had time to prepare a good line-up...Uncharted, Killzone, etc.

Based on what? Just because Xbox 360 had a year headstart on PS3?

This is the latest rumor on the next Xbox http://semiaccurate.com/2012/09/04/microsoft-xbox-next-delay-rumors-abound/

"The chip, which is still referred to as ‘Oban’, is being run through multiple fabs in very high quantities, too high by more than an order of magnitude to simply be for dev kits. Yields on the chip are said to be something between painfully low, Nvidia Fermi painfully low, and worse than that. Given the sheer number of wafers Microsoft contracted for, this seems to be both an anticipated problem, and one they have plans to work through. That said, SemiAccurate’s sources are still reporting that there is much work to be done, yields are not even up to “horrid” yet."

Now lets look at where the PS4 is at shall we?
As of this earlier this month...http://www.vg247.com/2012/11/01/ps4_details_playstation_4/

"Multiple sources have confirmed to VG247 today that a new version of the Orbis kit is now shipping to developers, and that it’s housed in a normal PC case.

There are to be four versions of the dev kit, we were told. A previous version was essentially just a graphics card. The version shipping now is a “modified PC,” and the third version, appearing in January, will be close to final spec. A final version will be delivered to developers “next summer”."

So unless Microsoft is really good at keeping secrets.....PS4 seems to be further in development.

Eh ... what?  Doesn't really sound either of them is ready for a 2013 launch by those rumors, but it also doesn't really paint any picture of one being further along at all.  That being said, doesn't the Xbox RUMOR make it seem as if an order has been placed for actual device chips and not dev kits?  And wouldn't that imply that they are hopeful to be gearing up for production?

Let me simply this for you.

PS4 - Already on its second dev kit. Develoepers are out there and already making games for it...

720 - Trouble creating the dev kits. Due to low yields, Microsoft ramped up production significantly. Low yields means that if they make lets say 1000 dev kits, only 10 of them work.....just an example.

The PS4 rumor mentions the final dev kit to be ready by summer. So mass production will probably start around that time as well. give or take a month or two.

I have searched and searched online and the overwhelming majority of information about the next Xbox is for a 2013 release.  The rumors about the dev kits for either of them are barely referenced anywhere online.  Stirring up this pot with such unconfirmed, unsubstantiated and rarely cited rumors doesn't seem very constructive.

But, as another stated, Pachter has more reliable industry sources and information in his sweaty gym socks than we all have collectively as a community.  I don't think he's right, but if betting with house money I'd go with his instincts over mine.  We'll wait to see if he makes any comments about the next Xbox anytime soon.

But we finally got our Wii HD.  Congrats, Pacht!
