Forums - Microsoft - Xbox TV Set Top Box + Casual Gaming

I think both devices will be always on. In Stand-By mode, they'll just consume such a minimal amount of energy that you wouldn't consider it "On". I think Kinect 2 will run in Stand-By allowing you to use voice commands to start or shutdown the device. Or if you walked into a room it would recognize you're in the room and start the device if you wanted.

I dont give a sh** about the cable box i dont even watch Tv LOL

i only watch Sporttv for Football and mainly Premiere League and i have a box with all of that with over 200 channels i dont even watch anything only my parents use it.

I will buy the Gaming one and if you ask me the other is useless, Microsoft knows this will be big along people because many people want a low cost Tv-Like service and Microsoft with all the apps and things they have on 360 the could already have done that easilly...

Yet for me and most of my friends this will be useless.

I hope they drop the price of Xbox Live Gaming and divide it into (Hardocre Pack vs Casual Pack). I pay for Live to play games but i pay more because of all the apps and sh** i dont even use.

I do watch tv, as do the kids and my wife and don't have any desire to get another set top box. We're fine with the 500 channels we get. Looking back on the track record of both Sony and MS in bringing their movie and tv apps to Canada this gen, a big no thanks from me.
Just give me a dedicated gaming console without any extra crap and focus on the games.

Even the existence of these rumors of MS splitting up the hardware gives me hope that they'll also be splitting up subscriptions... At least it's the best indication of some change in their subscription model we've had since the inception of the service. It'll make for better penetration.

That may be, but no one's going to make me feel obligated to pay monthly payments to help raise and sustain this newborn model! If they fork their service in an attempt to invite me in for some "fun and games," I'll have to keep my wits about me - next thing I know they'll force an 18-year subscription model on me that I can't back out of.

For people asking for multiple-tiers of Xbox Live, keep dreaming. Most people would switch to the lowest-tier if they could, and that would be bad for business. With next-gen, I expect Xbox Live prices to go up, not down.

@you too above me.... its a rumor article. Its not fact/confirmed.

While it does make sense to put out a $99 TV only device... to me it makes more sense to see a base enhanced model both with Kinect etc.

But what you are saying is fact, right?

It's not as unlikely as you would think. Granted the most plausible scenario would be MS would add more tiers on top of what they have now and the $60 a month one that we have now would be the lowest one.

Keep the console with the same subscription price and im sold.

Hope this turns out to be a powerful console.

Yay!!!

So, one for TV and the other games?

No. As I said many months ago... MSony will have entertainment smart TV boxes... not "gaming consoles". They will of course still play games with all the same feature set etc, but they will have equal importance and focus on smartTV style features and so on.

Even Nintendo is doing this with its WiiU, miiverse/browser/nintendotvii and like many other applications to follow as it will take them longer to build it up as WiiU is just now at the point where MSony were with PS360.

Sony hasnt alluded to this.  Personally, I dont want Sony following Microsofts lead anywhere besides online. The box sounds fine though for those who want it.
