Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Network ID locked to the console. Seriously?

So, I ordered a Wii U. I live in Europe, but I have an american Wii, so I was looking forward to transfer my Wii digital content (WiiWare, VC games) to the Wii U, since my old Wii is kind of dying (only composite video works, component is dead), and I am nervous for losing my content.

Finally, I would get the content tied to an account! Like every other online service does!

But NO! Today I find out It is still tied to the goddamn physical console. What the hell is wrong with you Nintendo? I really hate them right now, it's like they plan for you to lose your stuff. They are not a consumer-friendly company at all, hell, they're worse than Apple.

Relax.  It's already been proven you can transfer your ID to a new console if you need to.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

For now. *FOR NOW*

They've already said starting next year that they're very likely going to release an update that allows transfer to another Wii U if necessary.

I do have to ask, though... why is this such an issue for you? Wii U just came out yesterday. Why do you need to be able to access your system software from more than one Wii U?

Duplicate thread. Locked.

That's not true

Why is this a big issue? It's the risk, mainly. Since I have imported (live in Europe, US Wii/Wii U), I do not have the option of "sending the console to Nintendo" if something breaks. And I have VC/WiiWare content for hundreds of dollars.

Then you may ask "why did you import?", well, I imported the Wii because the PAL version of Virtual console was completely screwed with the original PAL ports of NES/SNES/N64/Genesis games running at wrong aspect ratio, wrong framerate, wrong sound pitch and slow speed. So I had to get the american one to enjoy the VC, as the slow speed in particular make some games near unplayable.

So yes, my problem is one for a minority, but I am getting sick of this consumer-unfriendly approach Nintendo has to everything. Even Nintendo's portables are region locked now.
