Forums - Nintendo - Wii U - Nintendo ID confined to system it was created on.

They confirmed this when I talked to them yesterday. So I'll have to make a new Nintendo ID once I get my system back and re-add all my friends, which sucks but it's all good.

Who confirmed this?

It makes no sense.

1) Nintendo has been generalizing their entire online services. eShops are now "Nintendo" not Wii or DS or 3DS... the login is the "Nintendo ID" not Wii number etc.

2) The system asks you for an existing or new ID at setup. Why in the world would it ask you for an existing if you couldn't use it?

Until I see this from NINTENDO... this has to be false. It simply makes no logical sense.

I can confirm.  I just got a new Wii U and tried to log in with my same NNID on the old system and it said 'no, it's already tied to another system'.  :(

So I changed my NNID to "Kenology18" and now everyone in the Wii U friend thread is re-adding me.

I'm assuming they're asking you to put in an existing one in case you created it on 3DS or something.  Once 3DS is on the Nintendo Network, you'll put in your existing Wii U on.

>:(

Well, I believe you fully, but it just doesn't make any sense and is a perfect example of the long list of Nintendo's asinine decisions to not embrace technology standards.

Also, why didn't you just call Nintendo? I'm sure there is something they could do. Granted this early on it may not matter.

I don't want to use my game saves, I want to use my ID to log into COD online. Maybe I'll have to try the recover gamertag option.

That's what I mean. You used to have to save your profile to a memory stick, but now you can do it through the cloud, I think. I remember having to recover my gamertag a few times, but it always took like a half hour or something ridiculous like that to do so.

Aah, oki. I will try next time. Similar concept on the PS3 I imagine?

But, with that said, my SFIV Arcade I bought off zune can only be played by me (and not other users) if I download it later on another 360. That's a limitation, so it's not all rosey shmosey.

This is just horrible. I won't be buying a Wii U until they fix this.

You should be able to store stuff like this in the cloud by now

What cloud?

I did call Nintendo.  I had a repair order and everything.  But Gamestop was willing to do an exchange and I would rather do that than wait a week for new system when I initially got it on launch day.

So I gotta play dirty.  The $50 I paid on eShop I'm going to dispute via my credit card company.  I already put another $50 on the eShop and repurchased Trine 2.

It doesn't make sense, I agree, and Nintendo is going to have to fix this SOON.

PS3's is a lot looser. Sony used to let you have your account and licenses for all your bought content on up to five consoles at once. I think they cut that back to two or three consoles about a year or so ago because people were sharing games so rampantly - even though this was originally used as a selling point for the console. (SHARE GAMES WITH UP TO FOUR FRIENDS!!!!!11)

I think you can still log into PSN with your account from any number of PS3s and access all of your content as long as you're online, though.

the limitation on the 360 is if you dl it on a other console without transfering its licence to it you have to be loged in and online with the account you bought the game/dlc/...

as long as the gamertag is online you can login (with a 2nd controller) to another gamertag and the game should work.

I guess you guys didn't know that each Nintendo Network account will have 512 MB of cloud storage soon?

Yup, that's what I meant, it's tied to my gamertag so nobody else can boot it unless they log in as me to boot it. Not a biggie, but I prefer people play on their gamertags and not mine.

Have you tried calling back with the new serial number to see if they could just move the $50 credit or NNID?
