Is the Wii U truly next gen? (Tech wise)

Yes 97 43.11%

No 104 46.22%

Wait until you see the tr... 24 10.67%

Total:225

Of course it doesn't have 7th Gen tech. It has a 2011 GPU with a DX11 equivalent feature set and four times as much RAM. What a ridiculous thread.

The more information I get from Wii U specs, the more I want to cancel my preorders. I am getting the feeling that the 2 week wait after NA launch will get the real specs out in open and with that, Wii U will not be as succesful as I thought it might be in Europe during its first holiday season.

Man, I will call and cancel my preorders right now.

Good. Then someone who's actually going to enjoy the console will be able to buy them.

Because snotty fanboys on the net don't define what is and what is not next gen. Like that? :D

What about dry-nosed fanboys? They're pretty good with definitions.

The Wii U is using DDR3-800 ram in the system. Basically Intel Nehalem used this back in 2007 for system CPU not for video.Do you expect the likes of Unreal engine 3 to be recoded for a CPU and video ram that's slower than 7 year old consoles? This means the Wii U has half the ram of the 360.

Umm batman uses unreal engine3.

btw it being clocked lower doesn't mean it is weaker where do you people get this stuff?

one thing it does not mean the wii-u is half the ram of xbox360. Do people come into topics like this and claim to know what they thinking because everyone is doing the same?

here you go broooo!

Your line of thought here comes perilously close to qualifying as trolling.

Console generations are not defined by technology. The Nintendo Wii proved that.

So... please, somebdy tell me, do you think the Wii-U will eventually get GTA V?

In your mind you are overestimating what the next gen will be.

Look at Star wars 1313 PC footage. Thats what next-gen is. I'm pretty sure the Wii U can handle it, even if in a lesser degree.

Reasons why:
1. Graphics are reaching the maximum detail that can be perceived by the human eye and brain.
2. Theres a global crisis, buying power has declined, consumers are not willing to pay as much for gaming systems (high-end parts are expensive).
3. In an atempt to gather more sales, companies are tapping into a more casual gamer with devices as kinect, move, Wii gamepad, etc. These will come bundled to ensure the user base has great acess to them and stimulate development with them in mind. This raises the cost of the overall product.
4. Development costs would skyrocket with very powerful machines. The games would be few and alot more expensive than current ones. This is not good for the market because of 2.

For these reasons, next gen wont be the kind of leap we have grown used to, and i still believe Nintendo made a genius decision and has jumped ahead of the competition. We will know for sure when we see the new games for the Xbox720/PS4 and the Wii U.

People have been saying that for literally over a hundred years and time after time they are proven wrong. It will still be decades before even CGI can pixel for pixel replicate the real world.

You just read whatever you wanted on that didnt you? Theres 4 points, not 1. They all work in conjunction.

Its a fact and you cant deny that is the case with every passing gen, that the leap will be increasingly smaller because the noticeable different will be smaller, besides the fact that development costs would skyrocket otherwise and you would be charged 100 dollars/euros per game. Even in your post, notice how you compare to when graphics will be equal to the real world. That is not the issue, the issue is that the difference between gens is increasingly smaller cause we get closer to that threshhold.

Actually, if you look at the FFversus13 trailer when Noctis is in the car and they go past the toll station, dont tell me that doesnt look real. Its amazing. I have often wondered if they were using real life footage for it, but then those black pillars come from underneath revealing the thing as CG.

I isolated that point because it was wrong; the rest makes sense.

That is wrong though. With every passing gen the leap appears to be smaller because generations are getting longer and optimization is becoming key. The difference between a game made today and 5 years ago is arguably similar to a game made in 1980 and 1985. Development costs go up but so does the market. The reason games keep getting more expensive is inflation.

It does look real, today. When king kong first released people thought it looked super lifelike. A century later we look at stop motion special effects as a joke. Why, because our brains learn pretty quickly. In the movie Avatar everything looks super wonderful and realistic but more can be done. As soon as Avatar 2 is released our brains will subconsciously pinpoint what was wrong in the first.

Much as i like to rag on Take Two/Rockstar (and i very much do), i'd say it's likely in the form of a "Game of the Year" edition, probably in time for the holidays, with the first round of DLC included.
