One of the things I remember ppl consistently saying (same thing some are saying in your thread) was that J&D 1 was great, but 2/3 went downhill. I ended up buying J&D 1 real cheap to give it a try. I'm guessing I played almost 1/3 of the game by the time I decided it wasn't fun enough to continue. I also watched some gameplay videos of J&D 2, and it didn't look very appealing or fun. Because of these things, I decided not to buy 2/3 and instead bought the Sly collection. While the gameplay in Sly got repetitive and sometimes boring, I liked it bc I liked the characters (Sly, Bentley, and Carmelita that is; NOT Murray, who is unbearably annoying in Sly 2/3). I didn't really enjoy Jak though, and Daxter was a little too over the top, although his character design is awesome. I'd be interested to hear what you think. I may have to give the rest of J&D 1 a play-through someday. |
Honestly, I wonder if Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch sat down and said. "How can we destroy our series with the second entry? Let's take everything fun from the original out, and make them open-world with no vision."

Yeah, tbh I was pretty surprised at the major change in game style from Sly 1 to Sly 2. Going from the somewhat linear Sly 1 to an open world style in Sly 2 was not really a good change for the most part imo. Objectives seemed to become really tedious and repetitive in Sly 2 bc of this. I did like the focus on power-ups, though. I missed the ps2/xbox generation of consoles, but I'm assuming the open world approach was done in response to the popularity of GTA? Doesn't matter though - if you're gonna do open world, it has to be done right. I'm not typically a fan of it regardless (exception: inFAMOUS 1).
Oh, a question for you: I never went back to Sly 1 after beating it...Murray WAS completely different in Sly 2 compared to Sly 1, right? Wasn't he a coward in Sly 1? That wasn't an amazing character trait either, but I would've taken anything over his stupid super hero act in Sly 2/3. I really couldn't stand it every time he opened his mouth. Unfortunate, bc Sly is the man, Bently is both awesome and funny, and Carmelita plays a pretty good part as well.
