I don't mind paying for quality.

Just because the competition feel the need to cut the price of their products that doesn't mean Nintendo should as well. If Nintendo can stay competitive despite a higher price that means the product is not overpriced.

The competition has to cut the price of their products because of precisely that, they actually have competition. I would be pissed of this generation if i knew i had to pay $50/£30 for a 4 year old game. It seems that they don't give a shit if their games stop selling at full price, and think "Well if their not willing to pay full price for a game they obviously don't want to buy said game". At least they are begginnning to remedy the situation with 'Nintendo Selects".

Mario Kart Wii with Wii Wheel

Gran Turismo 5
PS3 Gran Turismo 5 XL Edition

MKWii is currently selling for over $50! Injustice!!

GT5 is the best racing game ever made and yet people let Nintendo get away with charging a premium on its casual Mario Kart Wii.

Why are you not outraged as a gamer?

Sort of simple why Mario Kart is still at $50.  There's still demand.  Just because you sold a lot of the copy, doesn't mean you should lose money when customers are still willing to pay for it.

Plus, Mario Kart Wii is not just a casual game.  There online is the best on this game and it can get really competitive.  Try being ranked 8000+ and try getting first place.  There's strategies in the game to implement.

Like if you rather let everyone go ahead of you and get a good item.  Even if you're last place you can catch up to 4th place, once you activate a star, or a boost, or a thunder, you can take first place for a full lap lead.  It's hard, but it's possible.  So much of the other racers with bombard or sabatoge one another that you can out lap them.  But it's rare.

Or, you can either take first place, snake and boost your way to the finish.  Boosting can make all the difference in that game.  You mario kart players know what I mean.

Are you trying to tell us that MKWii is a better game, hence, the price?

Many Nintendo game kept their prices high.

If they're in the Nintendo Selects, that must mean those can't compete at a $50 dollar price.  From a financial point of view, you can cut your loses by selling at a lower rate and getting a lower gain.  But you got to think, those will just sit on the shelves, while newer games just destroy them in sales.  If you can move the last amount, then you can put out newer games that do better in sales.

Certainly not.  This is Apples and oranges.  Simply, if you can sell at a top price and customers are still willing to buy, why cut your loses?  Believe me, if Sony had continued to sell really well at $500 dollars for the ps3, they still would be.

And yes, Nintendo games are kept at the high mark.  Look at Supersmash bros. Melee.  It was hard to find one at under $50 even after 4 years of the games release.  It sells. Same for Pokemon, same Wii sports resort, Mario kart 7, New Supermario Bros., Wii Fit.  This week alone, New Super Mario Bros is still at 33 of the top 50 game sell.

Plus, I never played Gran Turismo, I wouldn't know if it was good or not.  I'm really not into cars.

So? They stay high because of demand I don't see the issue here tbh, I found Vanquish to be better then most if not all action shooters this gen and that was in the bargain bin of shops with in months while other games still maintained higher prices. Not going to get into the usual rubbish of people saying which game is better as that's down to the individual but as it goes Mario Kart is enjoyable to a lot more people then GT that's why it's still selling at that price and one of the highest selling games of all time that's just how it is. Nintendo's first party games often maintain their prices for generations because they're sort after.

Yes i agree, it just took Nintendo a hell of a long time to realise that games are actually price elastic (I.e games will sell more when price is reduced). It means they are starting to think of their extra customers (people who will games at a lower price) also "selects" "Platinum" "Essentials" range is a way of redcuing the price so people are less likely to buy used copies.

Edit: I agree with the OP as a gamer I would be outraged if i owned a Wii, knowing i have to pay a ridiculous premium for age old games.

Because Mario Kart Wii is a superior game to GT5.

First off people have more fn with Mario kart than GT.  Number two, Forza has dethroned GT5 for quality for a a while now.
