Driver who mounted pavement to avoid school bus told to wear 'idiot' sign

Judge orders woman from Cleveland, Ohio, to spend two sessions at crossroads sporting sign condemning her behaviour

Hardin is thought to have been making the detour every day

A woman caught on camera driving on a pavement to avoid a Cleveland school bus unloading children will have to stand at a crossroads wearing a sign describing herself as an idiot.

A Cleveland municipal court judge on Monday ordered 32-year-old Shena Hardin to stand at the crossroads on two days next week. She will have to wear a sign that reads: "Only an idiot drives on the sidewalk to avoid a school bus."

The judge ordered her to wear the sign from 7.45am to 8.45am on both days.

Hardin's license was suspended for 30 days and she was ordered to pay $250 (£156) in court costs.

It was the driver of the Cleveland bus, Uriah Herron, took the video of Hardin driving on the pavement, a detour she is thought to have made every day.

His manager, Eric Taylor, said: "We had a very conscientious driver for 30 years. He really cares about his children and he took the extra step [to ensure] that this doesn't happen again.

Strange country that America.. letting women drive...

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Two days for an hour a piece isn't going to get through an idiot's thick skull.

I'd have aimed for a week, couple hours in the morning, then evening rush hour in a nice visible spot. Then the humiliation would be more effective.

I'd gladly wear an idiot sign if I'm allowed to pass a school bus. :)

i was hoping the video had her wearing the sign

I remember waiting behind a school bus that had stop sign out/warning lights on for a few minutes.  I was getting a little pissed and started talking shit.  I then saw the child getting off the bus in a wheel chair and felt pretty bad.

lol...yeah that would do it. Still I see all these parents hugging their kids and giving them lunchboxes... while 30 cars are lined up to get by.

What is this not passing school bus rule? Why can people not go around them, providing it is clear?

School buses in USA have warning lights and a stop sign that comes out by the dus driver.  The bus first flashes yellow to warn people they are going to be stopping soon.  The lights then go to red and the sign comes out when the doors open.  Cars aren't allowed to pass while it is flashing red and sign out.

I didn't know this rule which I was reading up on..
"You also must stop even if you are on the opposite side of a highway divided by a median or physical barrier"

I would assume it would be okay if there was a divided road by a median or barrier considering I believe you don't even have to stop for emergency vehicles on the other side of a median.

I am wondering what lights they flash at railroad crossings.  I believe they might just keep the yellow on the whole time but not sure considering they do open the door (to look out) so it should turn red.  I always pass buses along with everyone else on 4 lane roads with railroad crossings (50 mph road).  It is pretty safe to assume that they are only stopping for the railroad and not letting any kids out so I believe it is legal (since everyone does it).

A stopped bus that is unloading children requires you to stop in case the kids run across the street or whatnot.

There is 1 thing you forget.  People will film her and this will be online untill the end of time.   So its like if she would stand there for the rest of her life :)
