Why would you enjoy a film just because of the references?

its not just the refrences, the story is great, and honestly a gamer for a long time will enjoy the many references they put in the film. the movie is funny, smart and at the right times emotional to some degree. even though the color palette of the game can be seen as it is directed to kids but the movie itself will be mostly enjoyed by people who have been playing video games for years and can easily be said that its a movie for gamers, about a video game charecter. also the art style is nothing short of fantastic, they managed to combine different art styles of video games. current western style, with retro, cartoonish style and  a bit of a dark and scary art style as well. they way they managed to make charecters that look nothing alike in terms of physical appearances and color palette in a univerise that is all so different from them and manage to make everything look... natural is simply fantastic. even though at the first glance wreck it ralph doesnt seem to be something special visually, when you take a good look, you will notice that the art in it is one of the most fantastic, well done and outstanding work seen in animation movies. 

I admit I was not interested at all besides the cameos, but you seem passionate about the film.  Mind if I ask some questions?

Would you compare it to a Pixar film? A Dreamworks film? Other Disney films?

Also, is the little girl character as obnoxiously annoying as she comes across in ten second in the preview?

Just saw it this morning. I really liked it a lot. Not a masterpiece, but it will be considered a classic. I stayed till the killscreen and it was so worth it. :)

I'd compare it to a Pixar film, because it reminds me of Toy Story quite a bit (if it wasn't easily apparent). And like Toy Story, everything seems strangely plausible. The three fictional games made up for the film (Wreck-It Ralph, Hero's Duty, and Sugar Rush) seem like they could be actual games, like how Buzz Lightyear seemed like he could be an actual toy.

That's where the comparison ends, because I haven't enjoyed a Pixar film as much as I've enjoyed Wreck-It Ralph  since... Ratatouille. So yes, I think it's something Pixar would make if they stopped being cynical buttmunches. Wreck-It-Ralph's story as a simple question: What's the purpose in life if you're a bad guy? Or a glitch? Or horribly outdated? Actually, that's also reminiscent of Toy Story. A really good thing to be reminiscent of. Oh, and Venelope is only annoying if you have an allergic reation to cuteness. Her voice can be annoying though if you don't get used to it really fast. So actually the comparison is to "good Pixar" as opposed to "meh Pixar".

Oh, and Sonic the Hedgehog is referenced in this movie several times. Just to add.
