Farmers: forget it.

Monthly salary for a female textile worker somewhere in the woods: $100. Closer to city: $130-$150

Industry worker in the woods: $100-$150 (large company, Small suppliers are in the $70-$100 region). Closer to city $150-$200

Highly paid industry worker in the city: $250 - $300

These workers constitute about 90% of working people. So from 1.3 billion chinese, probably 70-100 million are rich enough for extravaganza. That is not much but still more than a large European country.

Damn good point. What matters in China's huge population is that if 25% of it's 1.3bn people are in Sonys market range that that's more than the population of the US.

China is now the highest consumers of luxury goods in the whole world. 25% of all luxury goods are bought in China. This won't be the case if everyone earned peanuts.

I have no idea how many PS3's they will sell there but the numbers will be interesting.

Nintendo have been putting efforts into growing a market in South Korea and Iwata stated that they have intentions of pushing into asian markets with Wii U.

Right now not a chance in hell. In the future if China starts paying it's people a good wage then maybe.

It's hard to say how any gaming system will fare in China, since gaming is very new over there. But I think it sell over 10 million, due to the growing middle class who will want luxury goods like the PS3. Demand is big there potentially, because of the population regardless of how many are in poverty there.

His point still stands. Despite how many people are in poverty there's still a big european country of a market there, meaning a lot of potential. 

To expand: If only 5% of the chinese population are potential customers that's 65 million people. For reference the UK's population is 63 million, and it's also worth noting that the UK is the 2nd (or 3rd, not sure) biggest market for gaming.

The PS3 is already dominating the market by far, if it wasnt for it, the consoles would most likely disappear
