What about Nexus10? or the latest $250 ChromeBook?

Both cost less than either, have the same features and for basic programing the Chromebook has a lot of built in extensions (you can see them all in Chrome now) to assist with scripting and debugging.

This review and my comparison thread show RT is premature, weak, and overpriced. In a year, RT will probably be a sound choice.
iPad is good, but I still think overpriced... but that's my argument with all Apple products lol.

Nexus10 is a great choice too many are discounting due to Android's initial tablets that ran an OS that wasn't even meant for tablets.

I'll take a look at that thread now, Nexus10 or a Chromebook could be a good alt for what I need & want.

Sounds like a turd. Just like Windows mobile...Every year we're told it's the next big thing, never is. MS should stick to the areas they know best, they've never made a decent piece of hardware in their history - except the Xbox 360, and that was RRODeeeeed up to it's arse for a couple of years.

Remember those Windows "Smartphones" with the orange background and black text? Remember their crappy Mice and keyboard combos (mice with roller ball as direct control)...Junk.

They just don't make fancy stuff, well.

You do realize everyone is praising the Surface hardware. As good or better than the ipad... Where the surface is let down is in the software department, which is exactly what microsoft specializes in and "knows best".

The review pretty clearly declares the iPad better, for gaming performance, at least.

For text editing, there are quite a few choices on iPad. Diet Coda is the one designed most explicitly with web development in mind. Cheaper, but also good, alternatives include Elements, iA Writer and Byword. If you're looking for particular features, here's a comprehensive list of about 70 iOS text editors and their features:

I had a read of the full review, the only reason I was tempted by the Surface was the new keyboard, but hearing its rubbish means Ipad it is.

I played with it at a MS store and really liked the touch keyboard. I recommend if there is a MS holiday store near you to go check it out and see what you think.

Surface, hardware wise, doesn't offer anything more than the average tablet in the market right now (anything worth putting it at another level). Software wise, it's no step up from Android or iOS (UI is subjective) in any level or form aside from Office. (Which suitable alternates are vailable for the competition). Surface w/ Windows RT is M$'s tablet that is meant to compete with similar ARM based tablets.

With that said, reviews are falling in line as they should. (Marketing has a lot to do with it imo)

Windows 8 Pro tablets wil be reviewed and compared to similar slates/pc/ultrabooks once they release.

Go into a store and try it yourself. The keyboard is fantastic. Oh and maybe next time this review might review it after launch day when everything is switched on???

The biggest complaint that most reviewers have is that it doesn't have the large app library that iOS and Android have. And that a lot of apps out there were rushed so they don't run well. As for hardware, most of the reviews I read praised it.
