Forums - General - Is Disney buying Lucasfilm really a good thing?

Well Disney has Marvel, they could harness them to try and make a script for the movies. In addition they could actually go get Tim Hinz (I think that's what his name is) who did make a story Trilogy for what happened after the orginal movies. Back when Star Wars books where good, and use that as source material.

I'm glad someone brought up the avengers, because this is exactly the comparison that needs to be made. Disney owns the Marvel franchises, and they've done a great job of making great movies based upon them. They've shown that they can be good stewards of other people's IP, even when those other people are very bad at it themselves (daredevil, anyone?)

I think any mainline movies that get made will probably be better that the prequels. What I fear is the inevitable disney channel spinoffs. Imagine iCarly with Padawans. *Shudder*.

To everyone who thinks this is a good thing, you did all hear what Disney said about the Lucasarts gaming division? Their main focus will be shifted towards mobile gaming and social games, its clear that the company does not intend to maintain Lucasarts' visions for their many licences and franchises, this is all about milking, which does not bode well at all for the new Star Wars trilogy.

Well I assume disney bought lucasfilm for 4+ billion dollars to make money.

I'll play those games while drinking coke from my original '83 Return of the Jedi Burger King glass.

Lucasarts hasn't made a good game since Tie Fighter anyway.

To me it can't get worse.

Lucasgames has not released a classic since forever for me - since the "age of adventures" (1987-1997)
Lucasfilms either - the new Star Wars Trilogy is terrible (btw, I don't like Return of the Jedi too, sue me :) ) and the new Indiana Jones is... yeah...

Industrial Light and Magic will stay godly as always.

I actually like Honey I Shrunk the Kids when I was young. I remember crying in the theater when the ant died while bravely defending the kids.

Well, no, but we know that they at least have the ability to, unlike Disney. Disney is the EA of the TV/movie industry in my opinion, they used to be good and make some really good stuff but have been reduced to a purchasing behemoth that swallow up others and waste their talent on quick cash-in bullshit and the butchering of older licences and franchises. Like EA, they have every odd decent release, but this is the exception and not the rule.
