Forums - General - Disney Buys LucasFilm; New Star Wars Movie! ........ What? UPDATE: Lucas' Reign of Terror is OVER!

I'm more concerned with the games than the new films, I don't like this statement one bit:

Iger said Disney will
likely focus on mobile and social games rather than console. "We’ll
look opportunistically at console, most likely at licensing rather than
publishing. But we think given the nature of these characters and how
well known they are, they lend themselves quite nicely to the other
platforms.”

I will bloody condemn Disney if they ruin the Star Wars games (even more) by turning the bulk of them into mobile and social games, I want my Battlefront 3!

Please please Disney, start exploiting the franchise with bluray releases of the original theatrical versions

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Yes! I'd gladly fork over a ridiculous amount of cash to get my hands on those.

Completely shocked at this news, but I can't wait to watch Episode 7 in theaters :)

(also release Battlefront 3 please :P)

i bet they had a hell of a time with Lucas constantly altering the deal until they started praying he wouldn't alter it any further

You should actually read up on how they made the special editions back in 96.  They don't actually have the 0-negatives anymore, not the ones he made anyways.  They'd have to go hunt down some first gen copy, if any are lying around in good condition.

What are you talking about?  The special editions already did all of the work in restoring the OT.  They just also added in all the crappy "special" material.  You don't think they still have the remastered originals without special edition additions lying on a hard drive somewhere?

They don't.  Lucas actually cut up the 0-negatives and spliced in the special effect shots into the film reel.  It's the reason why the DVD release used the laser disc footage as that was the last time they made a copy from the 0-negatives before someone didn't seal them properly.  They managed to restore most of the negatives, yes, but they cut and replaced part of it with the new special edition footage.  So technically the original technically doesn't exist anymore.

This sounds incredibly unlikely given Lucas's obsession with digital effects even back then.  Did they really make the bonehead decision of destroying the original work when digitizing it would have been the better solution?

It's all here: http://secrethistoryofstarwars.com/savingstarwars.html

Though I might have been wrong about the laser disc.  Good read, they actually had to colour time using a technicolor copy that Lucas had stored in his basement.
