It's the reason why the DVD release used the laser disc footage as that was the last time they made a copy from the 0-negatives before someone didn't seal them properly. They managed to restore most of the negatives, yes, but they cut and replaced part of it with the new special edition footage. So technically the original technically doesn't exist anymore. |
This sounds incredibly unlikely given Lucas's obsession with digital effects even back then. Did they really make the bonehead decision of destroying the original work when digitizing it would have been the better solution?
