Forums - Sales - Am I the only one that thinks Vita will sell less in 2013 than 2012?

There is not going to be a Vita price cut in 2013, I'm sure of it

Why not?

To me, a price cut in the second semester is a lock.

Sony pretty much confirmed a price cut in 2013. Soooooo....

But the questions "How much" and "When" are still very important ...

It wouldn't be out of character for Sony to drop the price of the 3G PS-Vita to $249 and discontinue the Wifi model and call that a "price cut" but I doubt that would have much of a positive effect on sales; especially if they wait until late in the year when third party publishers are speaking out about how awful PS-Vita sales have been.

In contrast, early in the year Sony could agressively cut the price of the Wifi model to $179 and bundle a memory card resulting in a significant increase in sales.

More like discontinue the 3G and cut wifi to $199. 3G isnt selling at all apparantly. But yes, the "when" is very important. If they wait for the holidays 2013, it could be too little too late.

They would be idiots to discontinue the 3g model before they see what it can do with a price cut. Most likely the 3g model isn't selling because its more expensive than a ps3.

As for the OP, I'm pretty sure I read something very similar in '07... most likely it was also from the same poster.

It will sell more for a lot of reasons.

1. Games

2. Price drop

3. 12 months of sales instead of 10

z101, the problem is, 3rd parties can't sell their games on the 3ds, they will either move to vita or phones

You must be joking. They've already talked about 2013 price cut. You must just be making fun of people who told everyone 2012 wasn't going to see a price cut (like I kept telling people).

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

3G isn't selling well because it is $50 more. The added production cost of 3g is insignificant. The only reason there are two models is to create a higher profit margin on the product by limiting a feature. If anything Sony will stop making wifi only models, give everyone the 3G option and cut the price down to $199.

Sony can't afford it, I think Vita can barely get even with the price of a memory card included and I also think they took a page from MS's book and learned to not do a price cut but to better do value added bundles, gift cards and others types of promotions that don't cut the price permanently. The new Super Slims bundles are proof of that and PS3 has been on top the charts lately (according to VGC numbers).

They will cut the price with the Vita slim in 2014, of course I can't see the future and I'm not an analyst this is only my prediction based on actual trends.

I wouldn't be surprised if it sells less in 2013, the only thing that would surprise me is if it sold a lot more. Some console moving games would have to come out, but selling better I just don't see that happening with how well the ds is doing and the Wii U hitting the market.

It's because PS3 is selling nicely.

When PS3 was stalling they made yearly price cuts. And Vita is selling even worse than PS3 in the bad days so...

The top 10 third party games for the 3DS have sold 7.66 million units combined, the top 10 PS-Vita games have sold 1.74 million units combined, and 3DS games (on average) should cost less to develop than PS-Vita games; which system is more likely to lose third party support?
