I swear this was already discussed a few months ago on here.

This seems like a really over-simplified way of talking about the most successful console...

I think you'd need more demographic information before making a claim like that.

u can also say 360 games r the cheapest. price drops crazy compare to ps3 and wii.

Does tie ratio really mean anything when 12 out of the top 15 are all one genre? Not to mention multiple sequels.

PS3 probably has the best spread of core games in the top 15 and Wii it is clear majority of the games are casual player ones.

While we're making up what we think should be the best gauge of a console's success in a gen (most consoles and software sold total? Pfft, that doesn't satisfy my biases!) I suggest that we have an all-out, three-way, no-holds-barred, steel-cage match between Kratos, Mario, and Master Chief to be held on Black Friday. The winner gets crowned "the most successful console of the gen." It's every bit as arbitrary as using tie ratio instead of total consoles and software sold and a lot more fun!

We have stated over and over in this thread that nintendo has been the most successful due to profits, 2nd microsoft and far behind sony

if xbox did not have bad piracy the attach rate would be higher

Yes because the Xbox is more successful then the PS2, I see now. Good thread.

And you base this.....on what? The PS3 had low piracy and it's got a low attach rate as you clearly saw. We could argue that if the PS3 would be as easy to pirate for as the 360, it would have a higher attach rate based on the same Bullshitonium that was used for your statement.

Far as I'm concerned. numbers don't much mean anything this gen.

Who won? Who cares!?

Sony is still in the game with a brand that's strong enough for its breeches and has managed not to alienate a great part of its core target demographic. It actually managed to recover from the PR nightmare that was last year's hack, smelling like roses if nothing else. Doom and gloom was presumed for the brand, but the whole fiasco barely made a dent.

Microsoft have done well for themselves but, as Sony have shown, there is no formula that can guarantee future success. Don't forget that Microsoft have not done the best of business in terms of marketing and have had problems for themselves, raging from the RRoD problem in the past, to current events and news of account hacking NOT being treated seriously.

Nintendo...never cared much, never will. Can't say anything on them.

I think there are many things to discuss here, but I don't believe you can decide anymore who "WON" this generation.  The Wii sold in droves but the casual market is fast moving on; the 360 has been a runaway success, but there's good merit to the question "How long can Forza, Halo and Gears of War keep going until people actually get sick of them?"; the PS3 has had a more modest success, but is continuing to sell well on a constant basis, still well placed on the European and Asian markets and, quite frankly, coming back from the very brink of collapse after its disastruous launch.

Who won?
Who cares?
