Let's see, it's 50$ off a slim with a smaller than normal harddrive, and comes with games that have been out for a while already. I would think desperation would involve cutting a lot of profit, but this doesn't really come off as such. They didn't cut the slim price...hell they even said "consumers have spoken. They don't want price changes all the time, they want retailer discounts". That is a direct quote. So they really said "we could have dropped the price"; We are seeing that price drop now.
So is this really desperate? I'm not so sure. Seems pretty reasonable from a business standpoint, but seems insane from a consumer standpoint. I would argue that that paradox means that Sony did its job with this bundle. I'm sure you can agree to that.

In my defense, I didn't know it was for such a limited time only. I thought it was for the whole Holiday season.

Hmm I'm not sure anyone knows for sure how long this goes on.
If it goes on til' christmas, I'd say that's a little lengthy, and potentially takes away from new game sales if consumers think that the four games they are getting will be enough. Hopefully, consumers are more interested in getting those as a bonus to newer releases IF this lasts through xmas...but I still think this is more of a black friday deal only.
I think their xmas deals are going to be more on par with what we've seen from MS deals every xmas, 100$ giftcards at target, walmart, etc, or move bundled in for free...things of that nature. I think so because of that quote I mentioned earlier. They have no data for what they said except for what they've seen from MS. Even myself, I've said for years that the way MS does pricing (no price drops, just holiday and seasonal retailer discounts) is the way to go....the problem with SOny being that when they do a price cut, they can't do a price raise, while holiday cuts can do that.
