Alien vs. Predator- Requiem (2007)

2/10

I downloaded this movie off Limewire yesturday and I must say this movie sucks.

This thing's an atrocity

You know, in a movie titled ALIEN VS PREDATOR it would be nice to see the 2 on the same screen duking it out more than like a total of 5 minutes of the movie.

Yeah, they finally made it rated R, but there's no rhyme or reason to it. There's no suspense. There's absolutely no character build up.

Also, what the hell's going on with the predalien, it seems like the thing grows from chest burster to full grown Predator killing machine in like 3 minutes.

The movie just has way too many WTF moments to really even be enjoyable.

The first AVP > than this, and that's kind of sad

If you've seen the R rated trailer, you've seen the best parts of this movie.

Why was the old concept from the video game ever abandoned?

You know, where space marines land on a distant planet and it's infected with aliens...and they get followed there by Predators...and it's a royal free for all then.

UGH, this movie is so disappointing, I don't know why I get my hopes up for anything Hollywood produces anymore.

I'm a fan of the Resident Evil movies (the first 2 anyways) so I'm not a stranger to liking "check brain at door" movies. But this wasn't even something I could enjoy

It just simply sucked

I am Legend. (2007)

As a fan of the book written by Richard Matheson in 1954, I had high expectations entering the cinema. The basic concept behind the book is facinating. Robert Neville is the last survivor in the world. Every other human has become infected, and is basically a vampire.

There are some deviations from the book in the film. The film is based in New York while the novel was set in Southern California. He does not have a dog, as shown in the film, but he does meet a dog at one point in the book. Also the monsters in the film are not proper vampires, although they are sensitive to UV light, and love the smell of blood.

The first hour of the film is pure quality viewing. It's emotional (his relationship with his dog) and thrilling (when  he enters the dark) and overall facinating, because unlike a lot of films, you have no idea how it's going to end.

Will Smith is perfect in the role of a post apocalyptic survivor. He's tough, but sensitive at the same time.

I was extremely impressed with the movie until I saw the first infected human. I have a gripe with how they look. They seem to be almost completely computer animated. I would have much prefered if the director had gone with real actors in suits, with perhaps a mix of computer animation.

Then the introduction of the two other characters the mother and son, came too soon in my opinion. Your only just getting to really understand Will Smith's character when they enter the scene.

The ending of the film is it's biggest flaw however in my view, it seems a bit rushed (reminded me of War of the Worlds) and really could have gone in a dozen or so more interesting directions.

Overall I highly reccommend viewing I Am Legend. The film is based on an old classic book, and has been modernised in the film version. Possibly the best movie out at the moment.

8.5/10

I AM LEGEND (2007)

8/10

First, let me say that this movie is going to piss people off. It is being advertised as a blockbuster action movie, when it is a more story driven character study.

The strongest plus, for the most part, is the story. It was very compelling, and gripping. Unlike most 100M+ movies, I didnt find myself bored during the exposition, hoping for an action scene to redeem the poor acting or story. Additionally, while not usually a Will Smith fan, I think he did a very good job with his role.

However, the movie is very flawed. The biggest problem being the pacing. The movie builds in a very calculated manner. And then, the big reveal is unvailed during a frenzied action scene and the movie concludes minutes after. I saw the movie with four people, who I would all consider intelligent, and we honestly didnt understand the ending.

Overall, I wouldnt say pass this up. The good parts are exceptional. However, the ending needed maybe something more epic, and at very least more explanation. Apparently even the studio must agree, since when the first cut was given to them they asked for last minute reshoots. This is the hardest type of movie to dislike, because it seemed like there was intergrity in making it. However, what could have been a classic was spoiled by an abrupt and somewhat nonsensical ending.

And in regards to much talked about bad special effects... The animals looked awful, there is no need to computer animate animals that arent extinct yet. However, the vampires were scary, but more because of the sound than visual effects.

Edit: I posted this on Yahoo Movies 8)

I just saw it 10 minutes ago! I'd agree with your score, it was as good as I'd hoped.

Uhm lets try this:

Futurama Bender's Big Score. 9/10

Let me just say if you are a fan of Futurama, buy this DVD right now!

The movie already starts with a great intro. Box Network has cancelled the license of planet express. But executives of box network got beaten up and died of their injuries. So they are back on the air. Yes back on the air in our mighty space ship. With bender saying: We're back baby! Then starts the lovable extra long Futurama intro song:

Any who. The story begins with the Planet express crew going to the nude beach planet. Where a couple of naked aliens ask everyone for their emailadress. These aliens are called scammers. They scam everyone on earth with their spam. Also ending up with Proffesor Farnsworth thinking he won the Spanish National Lottery. So they lose the company. I don't we really wanna ruin anymore of the story. But it is very Futurama. It involves time traveling. A lot of you're favorite side characters (hedonism bot, kwanzaa-bot, santa clause, Al Gore and Al Gore's head, Clamps, Don Bot, Nibbler and the Nibblonians and lots more, Chunakah Zombie, the elves and lots more)

The jokes are funny and intelligent, the story is awesome and the ending is very touching, and of course a lot of the Futurama characters and Formula. Only downsides is that the two songs in the movie felt a bit forced, although the rap was cool with santa, Kwanzaabot (coolio) and the Chanukah zombie (Mark Hamill). And Al Gore doing him self is awesome as well.

 BUY THIS MOVIE!

I agree with the I Am Legend reviews.  It was an excellent film, though the ending was a bit of a letdown.

@Kratos: I'm an avid Futurama fan (favorite show along with Scrubs), and I was all set to buy the movie until I saw that it was $24.99 at Best Buy.

@makingmusic476
Wow.....
Good News everyone, you should wait a while before you buy Futurama so that it will be cheaper.

I'm afraid those idiots at Fox made it a bit expensive. Still they made 10 million with Futurama.

The Orphanage (in theaters now): 9/10

I will start off by saying this is one of the best movies I have seen in 6 months. This is from Guillermo del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy, other Spanish films), a director who has a distinct style but whose style greatly adds to his movies rather than detracts from them, like one of my favorite directors Tim Burton for instance.

One of the most enticing things about his movies is the childlike atmosphere they create which realizes our fantasies about things we see in the shadows and the supernatural realm of ghosts and faeries. The adult characters in these movies who estrange themselves from this world of childlike fantasy misunderstand what is actually happening and limit their perception of the world to a purely rational one. The way the director overlaps the world of "fantasy" and "reality" makes his movies that much more compelling.

This movie is as well-paced as No Country For Old Men, which is one of the most well-paced movies I have ever seen. The movie keeps your attention from almost start to finish (the beginning might be slow for some for about 10-15 minutes). It is not for children in spite of its childlike nature. There are some very disturbing and violent parts, but I would never degrade this movie by comparing it to a slasher flick or even your traditional horror movie. The movie masterfully creates an overarching suspense, so even if nothing ends up happening you are still on the edge of your seat.

The movie does a great job of differentiating itself from Pan's Labyrinth too in spite of their similarities. The characters, especially the mother in the story, act phenomenally, and you often forget you are even watching a movie. It is very accessible too, and in spite of its artistic quality is very enjoyable to everyone.

The ending is incredibly moving and definitely had my eyes watering. It ends on one of the saddest, but also one of the happiest notes I have ever seen. I expect this movie to win at least one Oscar and am very excited to see Guillermo del Toro's next film. I would recommend this movie to anyone and I will definitely buy it whenever it hits DVD/Blu-ray.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. I kind of want to see I am Legend, but I really can't stand Will Smith. I will probably see it once it hits home video.
