Forums - Gaming - iPad 4? When will we see the iPad 5 and what of the competitors?

This right now makes Surface RT a real contender right now. It could steal alot of marketshare from Ipad due to things like this. Office is also great to have as is a Keyboard/cover that you dont have to drag around seperately or charge. USB 2.0 among other things. Its convienience.

These things matter alot more than a few better specs. Stuff that really changes what a tablet is.

Is not having a keyboard/cover that big a deal? I use the Smart Cover on my iPad all the time. When I'd like to type something up I have a small Bluetooth keyboard that I use. It works for all of my bluetooth devices as well, including my phone. I guess if you really want the keyboard to attach on you can get something like the Logitech ultra thin keyboard. 

The only videos that don't play are flash ones afaik. Still waiting on the YouTube iPad app from google (the old,not very good, app was axed in ios6), but that shouldn't take too long. You can always use the iPhone app for now or just watch videos from the YouTube website directly so it's not a problem.

I can't wait for a 'real' tablet computer. The ability to use legacy software (games) and the ability to use it like a computer outweighs for me anyway the legacy of the zillion apps that iOS has.

Few care about Flash today. No one will care in a year. Every major video site has supported HTML5 for at least a year already. The ones that don't have their heads up their asses (this is speaking as a web developer). The writing was on the wall four years ago when Apple prevented Flash from being installed on iOS. If site devs still haven't switched over to HTML5-compatibility, their site is probably not worth using because they are very bad at their jobs. End of story.

(One single site I frequent still uses Flash today... One. Flash is a non-issue at this point.)

I could make a good argument that Safari, being a Webkit browser, actually offers more access to the Internet than Surface, which uses IE. Webkit is more fully supported on the Internet than Internet Explorer.

Its all convienience. You dont have to charge the keyboard on Surface RT. It stays attached and acts as a cover if you want it to. You dont have to carry someting else with you. The apps for youtube do not have all the videos. In fact alot are missing. I have lost count of ow many times Ive gone to show a friend on his Ipone or Ipad and not been able to because it doesnt even appear on the app.

Then don't use the app. Every Android and iOS device can use YouTube from the browser and access every video offered on the site.

As for the keyboard, there are Android devices that are transforming and there are iPad cases that offer full keyboards, just like the Surface. While I think the Surface is a pretty slick design, it's really not bringing that much new to the table.

To be honest from people that have used it and these other offerings, they think it is very different and very impressive. I'll find out when my Surface RT arrives wit its nice shiny Touch Cover and kickstand. 

As for using the browser on phones how have you stopped the Sorry not on this device popping up. My friends Iphone 4s gets that if trying to view videos on the browser?

I have lost count of ow many times Ive gone to show a friend on his Ipone or Ipad and not been able to because it doesnt even appear on the app.

I guess that's nice, but the keyboard isn't very big and I can't remember the last time I charged the battery for it.

The old and not very good YouTube app is gone in ios6. Google is making a new one that can access all videos. New iPhone app is already out. You can access all the videos from the YouTube site directly in the meantime.

I think we are clouding the issue here. Most people that use tablets will only want video, games, web browsing and email. And I personally don't know anyone that has a tablet that has an external keyboard attachment. Although the Surface looks nice it's completely held back by major factors; it's price, the cutdown RT version of Windows 8 and the fact that the keyboard cover costs another £100 which is absolutely shocking.

Anyway, from what I'm hearing, Windows RT is extremely limited with regards to software and will only play scaled up Windows Phone software, so you can forget normal PC Windows-based games.

I dont really understand what your trying to say.

You say Windows RT is overpriced. Yet its directly made to compete with the IPAD. It is priced exactly the same, yet as more functionality. It was never designed to use normal Legacy X86 apps. That is why the Pro exists.

My point is the following.

For exactly the same price as the IPAD 4, you can get a device that does more.

If you want a tablet that gives you a full Desktop experience also you can spend more money and get a Pro.

RT is priced and designed to compete against the IPAD. Which it does more.

Pro is for those who waited for tablets to do desktop everyday tasks.

Eiter way theres no clouding of the issue, and if anyting the IPAD is now made to look extremely overpriced.
