Forums - Microsoft - Update: Xbox SmartGlass now available on iPad, iPhone and iPod

VG247

Xbox SmartGlass, which allows you to control your console and Xbox Live content using your smartphone or tablet, will go live this week.

As detailed on Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb’s blog, the Xbox 360 dashboard update in the process of rolling out to end users does in fact enable support for SmartGlass. The feature won’t be activated until Windows 8 goes live though, on October 26.

SmartGlass is a free downloadable app which powers “key foundational experiences for interacting with your Xbox 360, such as dashboard and app navigation and Internet Explorer control, like text input, scrolling and pinch and zoom”, and works with Xbox Video and Music.

The following games, apps and service will support the feature:

  • Games:
    - Ascend
    - Dance Central 3
    - Forza Horizon
    - Halo Waypoint
    - Home Run Stars
    - Karaoke
    - Kinect Sesame Street TV
    - Prima Games
  • Sports:
    - ESPN
    - NBA Game Time
    - UFC
  • Entertainment Apps:
    - Elections 2012
    - HBO GO
    - MSN
    - NBC News
    - NOW TV
    - Slacker Radio
    - TODAY
    - Univision

I'm excited and hope it's cool. It could be really cool.

Although, shouldn't Netflix support it? Also, good new we are getting Slacker Radio.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Sounds cool but i still don't really understand what Xbox smart glass is for?

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

'When the people are being beaten with a stick, they are not much happier if it is called the people's stick'- Mikhail Bakunin

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

Being able to control IE via Smartglass is gonna be great. Like having a mouse and keyboard in your lap.

Wont be long now till my Surface RT arrives.

Thats incredible. Truly incredible.

Microsoft hasn't said anything about this since E3. They don't seem to have that much confidence in it.

It will be a neat extra, but nothing really game changing.

It won't be game changing but it's kind hard to have a game changing experience for a 7 year old console. Nextbox however may bring forward a game changer using this technology.

Something like this isn't easy to pull off. My company has created these companion apps before, and the work involved to get just 1 show, game or app to work in sync on two screens is quite challenging.

Now let's see how it'll be supported here in mainland europe ;)

Is it true that smartglass won't be on ipad/other tables for a few mouths after release?
