Forums - Nintendo - Wii U "surprisingly powerful," textures "could be used in a movie."

People still bring up when that guy from Sony talked of Pixar quality graphics with the Playstation 2.

Even though these quotes are used to hype a system up, they will only come back to haunt in the end, whether fair or not.

When you consider that most HD console games are running at (below) 720p and struggle to run at a steady 30fps even though the engines have been highly optimized for these systems after being on the market for 6/7 years, and these same games have been ported to the Wii U and are running at 720p@60fps while outputting additional graphics to the tablet screen, it is very fair to say that the Wii U has demonstrated that it is far more powerful than the HD consoles.

With that said, the area you would expect to see the biggest advantage is (probably) textures being that the Wii U GPU may have a substantial amount of eDRAM that could act as a texture cache, the Wii U has substantially more memory, and both would translate to being able to render more textures which are also higher resolution.

At this point, the only people who still really believe that the Wii U is not more powerful than the 360 and PS3 are people with a devotion to  ignorance.

Truth of the Day!

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

I haven't seen a 3D engine game on Wii U that really blows away the PS3/360 yet.

I'm not sure Rayman is really a benchmark for the Wii U.

Lets see it run Battlefield 3 or Crysis 3 at fidelity closer to the PC than the PS3/360, then I'll be impressed with its performance.

I'm sure Wii U is better than the PS3/360 (I would hope so, those are 6/7 year old pieces of hardware), but for me it's more of a "I'll take you word for it" because none of the actual games look beyond the PS3/360 yet.

Bear in mind when the PS2 came out all that was referring to was Toy Story 1 & 2 and A Bug's Life. And I think we were definitely doing Toy Story 1 graphics last gen. Maybe A Bug's Life.

Next week Wii U to make movies. ROFL.

I know Ubisoft need to plug the Wii U but that was ridiculous.

Other than that yes we already know the Wii U is more powerful than PS360. Just not nearly enough for a new generation. The nextbox will be where I buy my Watchdogs games etc.

toy story 1 graphics last gen? not sure if... not even *close*. the amount of polygons is *way* off even in this gen - perhaps next gen.

Not even close buddy. Are you for real. Were not doing that this gen.

^ Have either of you guys seen the first Toy Story lately? Do you remember what the people looked like? I don't care how many polygons they were made of, we are SO far beyond that now.
