Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Q2 Results - Posts 125 million loss

Not surprising losses, but it could have been worse.

It will be interesting to see the next quarter with WiiU selling at a loss.

Please excuse my bad English.

Former gaming PC: i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Honestly, I don't think that the Wii U is selling at a loss. It's most likely a translation error because the report does not state that it is selling at a loss. It says Q2 was negatively impacted by the production costs of the Wii U, which resulted in a loss for this quarter.

Bad results imo. 3DS is doing ok, but definitely not good.

Nintendo is showing no confidence in the west. Well, now to see if Wii U struggles or not. To me , there's a good chance of that happening.

Mobile is killing dedicated handhelds

Everyone knew this for a long time now. Hopefully the remaining doubters will begin accepting the fact that iPhones, Andriod phones, Windows phones and tablets all are gaming devices as well.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

But not in direct competition. This argument has been held countless times, and yet the obvious analogy has not been enough to quiet the skeptics.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

The Wii U production started last quarter, at least by the the report they had on the investigation of the underage workers at the plant. So yeah that would be a big part of the loss.

I guess manufactoring all those Wii U's comes at a cost...Let's pray that they find someone to sell them to.

Even though the handheld market's days are numbered it's still impressive that Nintendo will be clear of 30 million 3DS' after this holiday.

They need the Wii U to be a hit badly, I don't think they'll have much trouble selling for the first few months, but that Feburary-August 2013 stretch will probably tell us a lot about how the broader market views the system and what kind of future it has.

You expect them to sell 8 million units?

Through the holiday season? Possibly. At least fairly close to it.

Won't happen, maybe 5, close to 6m.

Sure it will

Not too bad considering WiiU production. Wii made a ton of profit lifetime so its cool

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Dedicated Handhelds in the west really are living on borrowed time.

So how do you think this will affect your graphs? Does this down forecast suggest the 3DS could fall behind the DS?
