Forums - Sony - Sony: Major Layoffs Across the World

http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/10/19/sony-announces-major-layoffs-as-part-of-restructuring-plan

Huge news... not necessarily bad, though. (Well, it's terrible for those who lost their job, but it's not necessarily bad for Sony)

This is it for Sony - this marks their big effort to turn things around. Hopefully Hirai knows what he's doing.

I feel bad for everyone affected by this, but hopefully this is a step in the right direction.

People have been telling them for years, so its been a long time coming. They employ too many people at the moment and their position in the market no longer allows them to maintain that level of staffing.
Wish them all the best.

damn, 10,000 is an awfully big number.

This was announced months ago, if I remember correctly, just not exactly where the waves of cuts would come.

Holy crap that's huge! ~I didn't bother to click the link x_x

Glad their gaming division hasn't seen too much restructuring but with the way Vita is selling, it may only be a matter of time.

Well the game division has been profitable in 2010 and 2011, I believe, and if they can start making great profits from the new super slim ps3, I don't think they will have to do much restructuring.

Hory sheit! that's a lot of people o_O but it sounds familiar

edit: this will go on until 2013 it seems so not all 10.000 are fired yet

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

It sucks that these people had to lose their jobs, but hopefully now sony can get on the right track and actually gain some profits and not go bankrupt.
