Forums - Politics Discussion - Ben Stein says that taxes has to be raised on the rich....

http://gawker.com/5953010/ben-stein-tells-incredulous-fox--friends-hosts-taxes-are-too-damn-low

"I hate to say this on Fox, and I hope I'll be allowed to leave here alive, but I don't think there is anyway we can cut spending enough to make a meaningful difference," Stein said. "We going to have to raise taxes on very rich people, people with incomes of like say, 2, 3 million a year and up, and then slowly move it down."

Hey Hutnick. How much would it bolster the economy if the Rich were properly taxed? Would it even matter that much? 500 million - 1 billion in extra tax dollars? Or would it be a lot more?

And it is Hutnik, by the way.  Just an FYI.

At this point, you need to end up getting things going in the right direction, and making choices on priorities.  The approach in Washington had been to keep slashing taxes whenever there is a slowdown, and believe it would stimulate the economy.  It all had been stimulus based on deficit spending for awhile now, with a reversal during the Clinton era of the trend.

There is a Big Bird problem also with spending and a strong need to determine priorities and what to fund, to make America strong as a nation.  Once this has been decided then you can determine tax levels and so on.  At this point, everything needs to be look at, and dollars recovered everywhere.

Do you seriously not know who Ben Stein is?  I suggest you look up his background.  Ben Stein is the guy who came out and badmouthed the unemployed for being losers, and frowns upon any taxes going up normally.  He also said more cuts are needed to.  And he said there isn't much correlation between tax rates and economic activity.  Watch the video on the page.

And if you don't like Ben Stein, go with David Stockman:

Or Bruce Bartlett:

I thought he was the clear eye/dry eye commercial guy and the teacher from Ferris Bueller. Maybe people who are rich will know him better, I am not.

Unemployed are losers. I was unemployed for 3 years and I felt like a loser. I currently work nights at walmart and am on call at the post office. I still feel like a loser with three worthless degrees and 6 years of experience as a soldier who did nothing. Lets not beat around the bush. If you are not successful then you are technically a loser. You "Lossed" your job. You "Lossed" your self respect. So on and so forth. This is not meant to de-mean others and I am not even sure if that is the correct spelling.

Thanks for the info Hutnik!

Yep. Ben Stein is the Clear Eyes/Ferris Beuler guy, as well as the guy from "Win Ben Stein's Money"

What you didn't know is that he was a speechwriter and lawyer for Richard Nixon and Ford's presidency. He was also accused of being Deep Throat. He's a very, very, interesting guy, even if you disagree with him.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Actually, I think your missing the point.  Which isn't that we need to raise taxes on the rich... but that we need to raise taxes on everyone.

He just wants to start with the rich... seeing tax increases as economically damaging.  So he wants to start slow.

That specific article is being deceptive with what he said.

Just a bad term to throw around....  With youth these days they would only speculate....

Yeah taxes should be raised on them, but the tax loopholes need to be fixed first, otherwise it is pointless

With all due respect to Dr. Stein, I suggest he and you all watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=661pi6K-8WQ and see why the rich don't have enough money to run our bloated government.

Well it is pretty obvious that you have to cut medicare/medicaid, social security and the military (considering they are the three biggest portions of the budget).  What candidate do you see out there right now that is advocating this that actually stands a chance of winning?  It is pure political suicide to suggest these cuts even though they need to be made.  Everyone knows what needs to be done but no one has the balls to do it because they are held up by a pussy electorate called the USA population.

I remember him from "Win Ben Stein's Money". He's a pretty smart guy.
