Forums - Nintendo - Business Insider: ‘Wii U Is The Most Fun We’ve Ever Had With Console Gaming’

He looks like someone who has just played a spot of Nintendo Land

Glowing praise from an unlikely source

As the Nintendo-loving world waits with bated breath for the Wii U to launch and various skeptics pour scorn over its chances, it would appear that the new format has unequivocal support from one sector of the market, at least.

Business Insider's Dylan Love got some hands-on time with the new console at a recent press event, and came away very impressed - which bodes well for the Wii U's popularity with the all-important 'men in suits' portion of the consumer base, at least (not that we're insinuating that Dylan wears a suit - in fact, judging from his profile picture, he appears to be quite a laid-back sort of dude).

Here's what he had to say, presumably while not wearing a suit:

I've had relatively limited experience with console video games, so keep that in mind when I tell you the following: the Wii U is the most fun I've ever had playing games on a console hooked up to my TV.

I'm emphasizing fun. Not necessarily the best graphics (which are nevertheless great) or most in-depth storylines. Just loads and loads of unadulterated diversion.

There is a class of gamers for whom this stuff won't matter. They'll only want games requiring extreme processing power and elaborate rules. Let them complain. You won't be able to hear them when you're squealing through the next round of Mario Chase.

Nintendo Land won't be a system seller like Wii Sports was (pretty hard to top that) but hopefully it will help show the average person some interesting and fun gameplay ideas.

Wii Sports was not a system seller. It was just the game that everyone got when they got the system. You are reversing the precedent.

Its like SEGA and Sonic the Hedgehog.

A lot of people bought Wiis just for Wii Sport.  I know a few family members that did.  While they bought a few other games Wii Sports sold the system to them.  Wii Fit was also a pretty good system seller.  Better than any Microsoft or Sony franchise.

I bet you do, but I certainly don't. I've never met anyone who expressed any desire to acquire Wii Sports and I know a lot of people with Wii's. Also, why would people buy a game that came with the system? What would they need 2 for?

Most of them expressed interesting in varying games like NSMB, Brawl, Mario Kart or Wii Fit.

They didn't buy the game again considering it came with the system.  They bought the system to play the game.  The people not really into gaming are the ones I am mainly talking about (casuals).  Do you think that many old people in retirement homes explored the Wii library past games such as Wii Sports and Wii Fit?  Probably not and I highly doubt those types of consumers bought NSMB, Brawl, or even Mario Kart.  Most of those people were content with just experiencing Wii Sports and Wii Fit.

Also, Wii Sports might be downplayed a lot due to being a pack in game but you should check out its sales in Japan.  Everyone of those sales are from people that bought the game considering it was never packed in with the system in Japan.  Wii Sports was a huge system seller.

Your probably referring to actual gamers. (aka the wrong crowd).

Ask the millions of casuals who bought a Wii for Wii Sports and didnt buy a single other Wii game afterwards.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Gamers are the only group I'm not talking about. I'm talking specifically about the tadiationl gamers that all of you choose to denounce as causals now. Mothers, fathers, teenagers, aunts buying birthday presents etc.

They would show desire to get different games, but Wii Sports was never one of them. Wii Sports was the throwaway game for the system. It was more or less a demo disc of things it could do. It was an obligatory game.

I already get games like that, so this doesn't really help make the WiiU a must have or show its unique games for me.

"You won't be able to hear them when you're squealing through the next round of Mario Chase."

I don't care for Mario games, so, I'll have to pass on the WiiU until i see more games that peek my interest like ZombiU.

Mario Chase isn't a Mario ames, its a "Mario themed" minigame.

Like I've said many times before. No matter what good new is said about the Wii U the only post you will see are people who wish the dismiss it. If its not negative new, no one is interested.
