Forums - Nintendo - 1 Month to go (US)!

The best thing about this is europeans will be sure to have 99% of the games reviews by the date the console comes to europe. And enough lets plays etc on youtube to find out what to expect.

But I hate the wait its so annoying its almost as annoying as waiting for a new Zelda that is shown 2 or more years before it comes out.

I don’t know if getting older is causing time to fly faster but damn it the announcement was already a month+ ago.  Still no word on their miiverse service, a couple friends and I have speculated as to why but I feel the Nintendo directs are a bad way to disseminate information but I am sure whatever they have planned will be fine.  Most likely will here something come their earnings report next week.

Even though I have multiple guarantees on the system come release date, A couple of friends of mine and I will be making the trip to NYC to camp out at Nintendo World which should be immensely fun (we are leaving early Friday morning).

What are your plans?

because massive online infastructures are huge projects that take significant investment and testing, and much of the testing can't be done until after a massive audience starts using the service.  while i more or less believe nintendo will deliver on the features they have so far promised i also belive it will be like psn when the ps3 released or the 3DS where promised features trickel in over months to years after the initial launch.

..and i'll be breaking into PSASBR.

I suspect you're (probably) right ...

As a guess I would expect that at launch we will see a service that contains (roughly) 25% to 33% of the features that will eventually be part of Miiverse. While I expect some features will be added soon after launch, I would expect another big update after E3 or TGS next year. I think it will happen this way in part because Nintendo will need time to implement, test and integrate these features in games but I also think it gives them the ability to keep some of the features secret from Sony/Microsoft in case they decide to create their own version of the system.

Kitler, I don't agree with this. When the PS3 entered the market, it was a very different time and online had a different presence. Today it's truly ubiquitous in the console market, and Nintendo has planned the U around that. Almost 1GB of the memory is being dedicated to the OS (including MiiVerse), that should tell us much.

The whole load stress testing has already been done on Nintendo's joint 3DS/U servers, so it's already part of their process. The e-shop has been online for 2 years and Nintendo is not stupid enough not to integrate the e-shop's new features to the U's shop!

Moreover, the U can steal ideas from the PSN and from xbox live. No imho Nintendo will be much more ready than you realize, and you'll be taken by surprise.

Bookmark this because I want to bet on this one with anyone who doubts me. You can get my precious sig control if you want to (if you win).

@Squrriel, my post here doesn't contradict your post, as I agree it will get more features over time. But I believe the baseline will be perfectly competitive.

I wish I can actually fly to NYC for this. But sadly, I'm grounded for the time being...

i'm not saying that nintendo isn't planning for it...just that it won't be the full service promised in that E3 video (the non-specific action figure one).   many elements will be there at launch but if i were to bet on it i'd say smartphone integration and video chat are the most likey canidates for features not at launch but at some later date.

and that's not a dig, that's just reality.  online infastructure isn't easy.  we've seen game after game after game that is online multiplayer focused launch with issues even after having betas.  you simply can't stress test these systems pre-launch.

hell, sony has had psn out for how long now?  6 years.  they recently just had to retract the psn store update because it wasn't stable...

The fact that miiverse doesn't have video chat doesn't make it less competitive, right? It just puts the Online Infrastructure in that expected "always in progress" status.

Also, the instability of a Sony update does prove that online needs to be done properly, but Nintendo is currenlty stress testing its system prior to deployment, so this is a question of management. I don't expect issues personally

I know it's not a dig, kit, but it just doesn't seem to hold water, and I had to tell you :)
