Good luck to my buddies at LightBox in Austin. Layoffs and rumors of near whole studio gone by Friday :(

May they find new jobs soon.

Update:

http://www.theverge.com/gaming/2012/...fs-moving-away

LightBox Interactive, the Austin-based developer behind PlayStation 3 game Starhawk, has laid off 24 of its employees, studio founder and president Dylan Jobe tells Polygon. The layoffs are part of a "shift in product strategy" at LightBox, Jobe says, which includes a move away from traditional console development.

Jobe says he's not shutting down LightBox Interactive. Instead, the company will self-fund a small, focused indie-style team to bring the developer's next game to iOS, not the PlayStation 3.

Horrible news!!!

Best wishes to everyone on the team.

Hope it's just a couple layoffs or this would be the fourth studio that Sony has closed this year. Damn shame.

They're not a SONY studio. Just a studio SONY worked with.

Not surprising.....well at least this isn't a Sony studio.
With how much Starhawk sold, it's not surprising that Sony never bought them, and that its not closing. Starhawk should have been a $20 PSN game, it would have been much more successful.

I hope these people find new jobs!

Sony doesn't own them, they only had an exclusive deal for StarHawk with help from Santa Monica Studios.

starhawk was extremely fun from what i played in the beta. Shame. Them and Zipper made solid multiplayer games.

The multiplayer has been very heavily praised, actually. If it had launched in it's PSN state now ($20 downloadable for just the multiplayer) I think it would have been a more successful project.

You can also get the Singleplayer alone for 20, free for PS+. I hated it. The audio was horribly out of sync for the first cutscene, and when i travelled to an objective the game just sat there like I did nothing. Spent 5 mins trying to figure out what was wrong before I released the game was just messed up. I ended up deleting it. Reviewers had very little positive things to say about the Singleplayer as well.

What else did they make except of Starhawk?

Ya seven years making starhawk and it fizzled. Starhawk is a fantastic game its a shame it has not sold. Sony is trimming the fat and if its a game not selling in the millions it just wont due. Studios suffer major hits when they invest so much into one game. Lightbox probably had alot to lose on Starhawk being successful or not. To bad I'm sure they will land on there feet.
