I think it's a really good game. Regarding the video in the OP, I actually agree with a lot of what he says (although that guy is FRICKIN' ANNOYING!), except that I would certainly rate it higher than just "rent it".

Still, I do expect "U" to be even better.

Don't you ever speak negatively of Jeremy Jahns again.  You hear me?  NEVER!!  That man is a saint, sent here from heaven above to review movies and video games.

Lol, well I've never seen the guy before this video, but just based on it alone... sorry, not a fan.  He comes off as one of those people who tries waaaaaay too hard to be funny and instead only succeeds at being annoying (my opinion).

I do, however, agree with much of what he said about the game (save for the end "score") and he made a lot of valid points, so it wasn't what he had to say that was the problem for me, but the delivery.  Perhaps he's more likable in other vids, but after seeing this one I have no desire to see him ever again.

Try to watch the other videos. He is an expert on movies and is really funny. I don´t know what kind of humor you like, but he a really cool guy but maybe you are british or irish

Let me ask this. Is it really so easy? Because I hate it when a game plays almost itself.

It isn't that easy.  It's just impossible to see the Game Over screen.  You'll die plenty of times, but you'll get lives much quicker.  The game is all about mastering the levels after you beat it and getting as many coins as possible in Coin Rush mode which actualy does make this Mario game completely different, but what do I know?

Oh, and that guy in the video is very annoying and not funny at all.

Are you british?

I have realized that Jeremy Jahns is the best reviewer in the Internet because if a game is not good he says even if he is a huge fan of the franchise. Unlike 90% of the people on this forum.

Are you American?  Andrew WK is.

I don't find the guy to be anything but annoying, but to each his own.

To answer the original question posted in the OP.  No, the game doesn't suck at all.  It's actually very good.  The reason that people are hating on it is that they don't ever seeing a Game Over screen and saying that it's too easy.  They are saying that there is no way to fail.  Let me tell you, there's plenty of ways to fail.  Every time that Mario says "Oh no!" you should know that you messed up.  Is seeing the Game Over screen really that important?  If you were to see the Game Over screen, you are just going to hit continue and get five more lives anyway.  The game is about collecting coins and isn't broken at all like the reviewer said.

If Super Mario Bros 3 had as many lives as New Super Mario 2, it would still be a far more difficult game. It is not difficult to get 99 lives in SMB3, but it is difficult to pass many of the levels. The only NSMB2 level that I found difficult was the final bowser rights at the end of the regular game, and a the end of Star Road.

My big problem with the game was the lower diversity, and the fact that not really any levels stood out a great deal. Super Mario Bros 3, for example, is made up almost completely of memorable levels. I can picture just about every level in my head because each one has its unique quirks. NSMB2 does not have many of these (there's the level with the upper and lower path as mini Mario, and that's about the only one I can think of).

Also the world maps (and presentation in general) were WAY more interesting in Mario 3 and world.

Jeremy Jahns is my number one critic! Glad to see other people follow his videos.

Any who, I haven't played it but I have heard others talk that it's just too safe a game. You get a lot of 1Ups and you have done it all before. I can only assume if you LOVE Mario, you will like it. If you're not a drooling sheep for the franchise, then you would probably find it mediocre at best. By videos I have seen, it doesn't look that appealing. Now if they would just make SUPER MARIO RPG 2 ALREADY maybe I could move on with my LIFE! (And not that paper Mario shit)

Super Mario RPG 2 came out about 12 years ago rebranded as Paper Mario. There is a sequel to that one coming out on 3DS - the Wii paper Mario is related in graphical style only in terms of how it plays, and is actually an interesting Platformer; far more interesting than the New Super Mario games in my opinion.

Ehhh, I want a real sequel to it, not the spiritual successor, plus the graphics really put me off.

Paper Mario is the real sequel to Mario RPG. It was called and even originally marketed as Mario RPG 2 originally, and then they rebranded it into something more marketable as "Mario RPG 2" sounds really bland vanilla. Paper Matio was really a very final minute name for it, for a few months before they were calling it Mario Story.

The guy in the video on the original post seems very spazzy. I don't think he was trying to make a game review (as it is not a very informative video) so much as have a few drinks and act like a spaz on camera.
