It's a remake of a mobile game that predates Doodle Jump by about 3 years, so you are a couple of years late on Sonic jumping the shark.

Since, y'know, this kind of game is all about going up, up, up... Sonic will start at the bottom of a level and literally can only go up.

Maybe, but none of those hit the nadir of Sonic '06--even the PIco and GG garbage were better than that.
