Forums - General - The Nevada Caucus Thread of Gambling, Desert, Mormons, and Libertarians

1% of the Nevada (Republican) Caucus results are in.

Currently, Romney is way ahead - with 46% of the vote.  Mccain at 15% and Paul at 14% are neck and neck.  Huckabee and Thompson are between 9-10%, and Guiliani follows with under 4%, and then Hunter with under 2%.

No word yet on whether Clinton or Obama will win Nevada.

What do you make of the Republican side?  I'm expecting Paul, Mccain and Romney (obviously) to finish with over 12% but I'm not making any other Nevada predictions, other than I think Obama will win.

This is why I've given up on preliminary data.

I mean, come on now, Romney?!!

My picks for Nevada are Obama and McCain.

McCain may not even come in 2nd in Nevada.  Paul is ahead of him in almost every county so far, with about 2/3 of the counties reporting some results now.  He is going to get a big boost I think if he comes in second here.

I want to see Paul win and continue the Republican trend in 2008 (no candidate winning more than one state).

-Edit: Actually, I believe that Romney won Wyoming!

10% + in...

Romney (50%), Mccain + Paul (25%), field (25%).

Interesting.

Its like I said in the South Carolina thread -

Nevada, and much of the rest of the interior west (Idaho, Montana, Arizona, Utah, Colorado) has a strong libertarian streak.  Lots of these folks thought the government was too big by 1905, let alone 1955 or 2005, and frankly it should be Ron Paul's strongest region.  The only wildcard is that Nevada, Wyoming, Utah, are fairly heavily Mormon, and that heavily favors Romney.  California is similar to these states away from the coastal cities, but its largely Democratic on economic issues, and only moderate Republicans can win there. New Mexico is similar to Ohio, Misouri and Florida in that it is usually representative of the mood of the country - with Sante Fe and Albequerque heavily Democratic and much of the rest of the state libertarian or the "W" type of Republican.
