Its like I said in the South Carolina thread -

Nevada, and much of the rest of the interior west (Idaho, Montana, Arizona, Utah, Colorado) has a strong libertarian streak.  Lots of these folks thought the government was too big by 1905, let alone 1955 or 2005, and frankly it should be Ron Paul's strongest region.  The only wildcard is that Nevada, Wyoming, Utah, are fairly heavily Mormon, and that heavily favors Romney.  California is similar to these states away from the coastal cities, but its largely Democratic on economic issues, and only moderate Republicans can win there. New Mexico is similar to Ohio, Misouri and Florida in that it is usually representative of the mood of the country - with Sante Fe and Albequerque heavily Democratic and much of the rest of the state libertarian or the "W" type of Republican.
