Forums - General Discussion - Britain has anti-alien weapons~ E.T just sh*t his pants!

Brits have 15 year ahead tech... US has 30yrs+.

Think about it. When the original Stealth fighter was shown off in 1988 was actually designed and tested 30years prior... in the 50's.

US has planes with interstellar capabilities, laser guns (small and large) etc. But it has no need to display them and doesn't want to create some sort of arms race with this like nukes.

So it only trickles info in a really limited means and shows stuff really old.

EDIT: this isn't meant as a who's better comment, just that its happening on many fronts beyond one nation.

What makes any of those people think their "Anti-alien" weapons will have any effect on a race that we know absolutely nothing about?

Might as well arm themselves with Nerf water guns for all the good it's likely to do against an alien race with the technology to travel at warp speed to distant galaxies.

Shouldn't he be more worried about how to impose some form of taxation on any extraterrestrial visitors as opposed to fighting them off?

Who knows, maybe the government will come up with a legislation for aliens next.

Well, there goes my view that government funding only funds issues that actually manifest in real life out the window.  Nothing stops politicians who watch a bunch of sci-fi from making policy.

YEAAAAH! MERIKUUUUH! USA! USA! USA!

Seriously though, I wonder what kind of tech the governments have that we don't know about.

Planes with intestellar capabilities, you say?

Not sure if using the word correctly, but I'm thinking of a plane that can take off like normal and enter space, then return. No stupid rockets and such.

The stealth fighter/bombers etc were actually developed in the 40s by the German military

Ho 2-29

In the closing weeks of WWII the US military initiated "Operation Paperclip", an effort by the US Army to capture as much advanced German weapons research as possible, and also to deny that research to advancing Soviet troops

That's just a single wing aircraft... not stealth.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horten_Ho_229

"However, the Ho 229 was not the first flying wing, nor was it designed with radar stealth in mind. The flying wing shape was intended only for its usual purpose at the time: minimizing parasitic drag to extend the aircraft's range and airspeed, based on extensive aerodynamic testing conducted by the Horten brothers using tailless gliders throughout the mid-1930s."

Horten said he planned it as a stealth plane. This plane was able to move 20% closer to its target before being on radar etc... Advance warning time was reduced from 16minutes to 8 minutes  or to 2.5 minutes when flying 15 meters above sea level as was planned.

Everything points to the Ho2-29 being planned as a stealth bomber. Carbon paint, internal turbines, etc.
