Ok, so I have about 470 some odd dollars of amazon gift card saved up on my account. Bought some books, a new watch, and still has this much left. I am thinking about getting the Vita for this Xmas, so I can play at night when I am on call and the hospital is quiet.

So if i get it around the end of this year (Black friday or so); i am expecting some sort of bundle or discount.

What games would you guys recommend, I am thinking:

1. LBP Vita (it's a game within a game, hopefully user generated content can help fill in time gaps of new release)

2. Gravity Rush (Heard good things and apperantely sold enough for them to THINK about making a second one)

3. Uncharted GA (still on the fence, may get a used copy)

4. Rayman Origin (looks like it can be fun, may get a used copy)

5. Soul Sacrifice (when it comes)

6. Persona

If you want a excellent portable then get the Vita. The quality of the build is next to none. The 3ds XL looks cheap and plastic compared to it.

There are a huge amount of games available for it right now. A gigantic selection of PSN and PSP games with the new edition of playstation mobile means you will never be stook for amazing games to play.

Assasins Creed liberation looks amazing too. I agree with guys on this, the Ps Vita is the cool thing to hate right now.

You never lose an oportunity to take a jab at the 3DS. Never.

Have you tried the 3ds XL yet? I have and I prefere my 3ds. Better build quality except the screen is obviously better on the 3ds Xl.

I have both versions of the 3DS. I like the built of the XL more. I think the only advantage the 3DS XL screen has over the original 3DS is the size. I don't know but it looks to me that the XL screen has little yellow tone. I got the XL because the original gave me a terrible pain in my hands.

This is also a problem with the 3ds, sometimes it gives cramps. If you have used the Ps Vita before you can clearly see which console has the better build quality.

I like the XL better because it doesn't end up with smeared fingerprints all over the place that I have to constantly wipe off all the time, and well, the screen is bigger. I don't think the Vita has a better "built" quality, I think it has a more comfortable design to hold, which was a major problem with the 3DS, the XL is a little better since it's bigger but Vita is still better to hold. My problems with the Vita are:

1.) How it's priced after you take into consideration the ridiculous price of the proprietary memory cards at 32GB(it's mind boggling when Class 10 Micro SD 32GB cards can go as low as 19 USD)

2.) The number of actual good games compared to the competition present and in the years to come, If you compare my played time of my DS and my PSP, it wasn't even a competition, and it'd just fall into the same thing again if I get the current Vita. Even if you compare the currently known games, it's really no comparison and it's all about the games at the end of the tunnel. List of Known Vita Games on Wiki, Please update if anybody sees any left out btw, it hasn't been updated since the end of August- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_Vita_games and this is the list of 3DS games- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nintendo_3DS_games

Now, I'm not saying Vita is a bad piece of hardware, I don't even know wtf happened to Sony since the PS2 days and I'm personally an owner of a lot of Sony products. I've played some good amount of Vita since that's what friends are for, but I have no incentive to buy one, it's just not a good value, not ATM anyways.

To me six games (the amount on your list) is probably a pretty good number to buy a system for.

I wouldn't. Yes you might get the system on a sale during Black Friday, but it's still a first gen Sony system, and I've never had a good experience with first gen systems which aren't Nintendo.

That and games like Gravity Rush and Uncharted are still $40-$50 new, plus their really isn't much more then a handful of games.

Wait until the first redesign comes out, it will be thinner (like the PSP redesign was 1000 -> 2000), have a better battery, and by then there will be more games. You could also pick up Gravity Rush and Uncharted for less then.

That is funny because I have never had trouble with any of Sony's first gen systems and I have all the 1st gen systems. They are still working beautifully too.

PS1, PS2, PS3 - All first gen, all broken.

PSP, 3000 working fine. PS2 Slim working fine

X-Box 360 first gen broken

X-Box 360 HDMI (Fat) working fine.

NES, SNES, N64, GCN, GBA, GB, DS, all 1st gen all working fine. Also my non first gen GBC, GBP, GBA SP, and Wii are working fine too.

Sony is better then microsoft, but I still say avoid first gen Sony systems. If you haven't had to replace 1st gen Sony's consider yourself lucky because all of them had large scale defects. 1st and second gen PS1's had bad ball bearings which would fall out, 1st gen PS2's had bad lasers (because DVD's were so primitive and expensive) which on average would be replaced after 2-3 years (according to the repair guy), and PS3 had the YLoD. 1st gen PSP's had UMD disk reading issues, 1st gen 360's had the notorious RRoD, and I believe X-Box's had bad lasers too.

Nintendo is king for reliability, they don't produce systems at plants which can't garenteed a <2% fail rate (They are all made at Foxconn, but different plants pay employees differently and turn out different quality products).

I believe first gen PS3's had a 17% fail rate or something like that. Meaning that there was a 17% chance of it breaking before the warrenty period expired. 360 had a 33% fail rate, but judging from my experience with MS, I'm fairly confident that number was closer to 50% (They replaced my broken system with another broken system claiming it was working fine, and won't replace old systems with new ones, but with "functional/repaired" first gen systems).

Anyway, back to the OP - If you don't have a PSP already, get that instead. There is a mountain of good games available for it, it costs less then half the price of PSV, no worries about reliability, and so on. If Nintendo interests you, the 3DS XL is a steal.

just a word... NO but if you are a sony fan and want to have it, buy it, rigth now is a dead system and looks like things for it just get worst and worst.

Of course it is. Buy it and you will surely be happy about it.
Just:
1) Don't get Uncharted. Please.
2) Rayman Origins is one of the greatest platform of all time. So... it's way more than a game that "could be fun". You will love it. Trust me.
3) There is a lot of great games (but be careful of point n.1), you will have your hands full for months.
4) Back to playing Project DIVA ƒ! :]

Don't bother with getting a PSP.. If you get a PS Vita you'll also be able to play PS1/PSP games that is on PSN anyways, as well as crossplay/crossbuy with certain ps3 games. When you look at that value its a win win. It depends on the games you're interested in, and each have their own exclusives.

In terms of game library front, obviously 3ds has more thanks in part of it being out first.

again I recommend Gravity Rush, and Ragnarok Odyssey

As soon as I get some money, I think ill be getting one. Never thought I'd be getting a handheld again, but the Vita is a sexy machine with some great looking games. Will be my first handheld since the original gameboy (about 15 yrs ago).

Curious...what do u do? Sounds like ure a physician?

Yah, i am an internist (hospitalist)

One thing I really don't get is people banging on and on about if you want it wait til sometime next year to save this guy 50euros or so?. I mean really is 50euros that much that you would want the person to sit at nights for the next 6 months waiting for the price to drop down in the mean time he could be playing games and having entertainment for that time for the extra 50euros.

If you got the cash handy and you got hours where you're waiting with nothing to do go for it, the longer you wait the more hours wasted sitting there at night wishing you had bought it :D
