I really just want to know if that menu shot up there is a mockup.

It is.

I very much expected that it was, but that doesn't stop me from hoping so very, very much that it wasn't.

Can Wii U keep those "hardcore" players once the PS4/720 come out and start getting certain games exclusive and/or superior 3rd party versions of big games?

That's my bigger question. I'm sure it will have a solid launch, but 2013 Jan-May are going to be more indicative of the Wii U's long term success.

I hate to say it, but I think longterm Microsoft has a better formula for getting both casual players (Kinect stuff) and hardcore players (Halo + all the 3rd party content).

Wii U has BLOPS2 this year, but what about next year for example? That would probably be Modern Warfare 4 ... is MW4 going to run the same as it does on XBox 720? If the answer is no, then I see most of that fanbase sticking with the XBox brand.

Do you honestly think that Activision would put the next COD game ONLY on 720 / PS4 (if they are even out yet) next year?  The PS360 will still be getting their versions of COD next year, as will just about every other major multiplatform release.  Most of these games will also recieve a Wii U version as well... unless you think developers are just going to ignore all the extra $$$ they'd make by skipping out on the Wii U.

Developers aren't just going to abandon PS360 once all three next gen consoles are out, and this is where Wii U benefits most because it will recieve the bulk of multiplatform games that will be released either across current gen consoles, next gen consoles, or all consoles.

I think what's going to happen is CoD: Modern Warfare 4 will be on PS3/360/Wii U ... but the superior versions will all the next-gen engine effects and 1080p resolution etc. etc. etc. are going to be on PS4/720/PC.

There's basically going to become a split in the market, with devs making high end versions for the PS4/720/PC and probably a lower end team assigned to make the PS3/360/Wii U versions.

Guess which version CoD fanatics are going to want.

So how can Nintendo make sure these AAA franchises sell on Wii U? That's the real question here....post your thoughts. Bundles is all I can come up with.

Miiverse is Nintendo's not-secret weapon of advertising. Every time you turn the console on, you see what other people are playing. Genius.

I think wii u will be great. It looks like the best launch lineup nintendo have ever had from my view. As long as third parties throw games that interest me I'll buy them on wii u.

One more thing to complete my year = senran kagura localization =D

The one for the system they own?

Beyond that, we will have to see what Sony and Microsoft produce next generation but I'm doubtful that you will see substantial enhancements to graphics, higher resolutions, and better frame-rates at the same time. Certainly, if Microsoft and Sony are willing to produce a large and expensive console, you might be able to take a game that pushes the Wii U at 720p@30fps and output it at 1080p@60fps, or they might be able to produce substantial visual improvements at 720p@30fps; but the hardware needed to do both at the same time is far too expensive and produces too much heat to be put in a home console. Essentially, it would require a GPU similar to the ones being released in graphics cards that are manufactured at a 28nm process and still use over 175 Watts; and probably one of the ones that use closer to 250 Watts.

Basically, the hardware needed to take an existing HD console game from 720p@30fps to 1080p@60fps is inexpensive and energy efficient; if you put two or three times the processing power towards graphics and render at 720p@30fps (something the Wii U should be able to do) it will be moderately expensive and moderately high heat production to output that at 1080p@60fps; and to push graphics beyond that while maintaining 1080p@60fps output would require hardware that will be more expensive than the HD consoles were at launch that produce more heat. While that is theoritically possible, I doubt either Sony or Microsoft would do that.

It will do well, not Wii sorta of figures, but I reckon either 1st or 2nd next gen.

I'm moving all my multi-plats over to WiiU. CoD, Aliens etc.

I'm just kinda curious about this -- so what happens when CoD: Modern Warfare 4 inevitable comes in fall 2013 and the XBox 720 version is 1080p with a ton more DX11 effects and a lot better looking with the new XBox Live network behind it?

You're going to be happy paying $60 for the Wii U version?

I certainly would. If Microsoft manage to squeeze in the 6-8GB of RAM into the 720 and have Kinect 2.0 bundled with the console there's no way in hell that it's going to retail for less than 400 dollars/pounds. And the PS4 isn't going to be cheap either with its 2-4GB of RAM and GPU pushing 1.8TFLOPs. And out of the two I'd rather go for the PS4, Sony exclusives are much better and the online is going to be free unless Sony lose the plot.

I agree with the OP though, but it has nothing to do with Black Ops 2 - ZombiU, Rayman Legends, Aliens Colonial Marines and Bayonetta 2 will be the real success stories, and show publishers that decent software with decent marketing will sell - no matter what demographic it's aimed at.
