Forums - Sony - Could/would/are Sony dropping PS hardware altogether?

Could Sony do what I suggested below?

Yes 23 46.94%

No 26 53.06%

As of now, we only now that Gaikai will likely stream their exclusives, based on pictures. And yes, Gaikai is going to androids, iOS, etc. However, we don't know if Sony will allow exclusives to be streamed to non-Playstation devices. They may only allow certain games to be streamed to androids, iOS, etc.

But to answer your question, I don't think so...who knows though. I'm sure it'll be a while before cloud gaming takes off anyway.

How about we actually wait for this news you're talking about to actually be announced before assuming stuff and asking questions that make us look bad?

It has been announced already.

No. All we have is pictures and speculation. What your op is claiming hasn't been announced yet. We know next to no details.

They could do it. But I do not forsee them doing it any time in the next 10 years.

We don't know what Gaikai's plans are for yet, all we can do is speculate at the moment. Could be streaming hour-long demos to give people a chance to try the exclusive and make them more likely to buy a PS3. We just don't know yet.

they will not be dropping hardware and probably won't for a long long time. cloud gaming is a long ways off. though the USA isn't too bad in terms of internet many other markets have datacaps smaller then the average PS3 game.

Imagine only be able to play a game for 20 hours before your ISP shuts your internet off, This isn't even considering speeds themselves. The average download speed is like 3mb/s and upload is less. this is slower then the read speeds of current console disk drives.

No we have the Sony guy officially saying Android and IOS and Windows. For this service. And debating the images of games available in the pictures released to promote this is like saying I can see the Ferrari but I'm not driving it.

I clearly see Killzone, God Of War and Little Big Planet.

I don't think this is so far out of the question.

Playstation Mobile worries me. Sony is delivering their content on portable devices with open operating systems. Maybe it's just a way to compete with Xbox Live Arcade and Xbox Live Indie Games, but maybe it's Sony hedging its bets.

I certainly hope not. I want to see Sony stay in the hardware game. We need some healthy competition in the industry from people who focus on games first.

Just because the service will be on mobile devices doesn't mean the service will offer every single game on those devices.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

It seems like that wouldnt be a good business move. It would break up its userbase and considering the future looks more connected that wouldnt be a good idea in the long run. People would opt for other services that might be ccheaper or unified across platforms.

It would make no strategic sense to do this. Especially in the future. The brand would be bitesized in areas on certain devices trimming down the market and its presence for future years when this kind of service is only going to get more important not less.

It may serve them in te short term due to hardware butt would hurt them long term.

... ... ... We do not know in what form these games will be in. They could be demos, they could be trails, they could be full games. SONY could do something like Vita has access to PS3 games and other platforms just get demos in order to market PS3 and PSV, etc. We were told almost nothing and that more info would be coming soon.

I'm done.
