All that happens is that the phone starts charging like the ps3 hasn't detected it.
You might have to set it on storage mode; with my phone it won't act like a storage device unless you select it in your phone's menu when it's plugged in...
Ah yes. I presumed that it was already on storage mode because it didn't ask me to select like usual.
Okay now I would like to know how to transfer media from my phone to my ps3 as it doesn't detect anything on the phone.

Go to where your phone is inside the XMB. Press triangle, and select "Show All".
