Sure, they waited for it to reach a million, then they will start developing games for it. Nah, that doesn't work.
It's how long it takes to sell. It took too long for it to reach a million. Why now should they develop games for it with a slow selling rate it has now? Sure some will now, but not all devs will just because it's a million now. Like I said, if it was selling faster this would be true.

In Japan alone? |
Yes in Japan alone. That's quite a big gap between the two.
The problem is Vita's a luxury device aimed at a power hungry western audience, and if they aren't buying into it (yet) imagine Japan...Look PSP was extremely successful (doesn't matter what DS did) on its own merit, it was a "celebration" of the Playstation (1 &2) era and very popular/considered top of the line when it was released. This time, "console power in handheld, eh ok, but we've seen it before" and fact is, the portable market (tablets, mini tabs, ipods, phones, netbooks etc) is stealng off the same audience that would otherwise indulge in Vita: the young techies.
Some may get offended by this post but I tend to look at the bigger, ultimate picture.. And IMO selling 1 mill finally in Japan doesn't mean very much. Honestly if Vita ends up selling half what PSP did, or not even, lets say 35 mil Vitas, it should be considered a HUGE success, again when we consider the growing portable market. I'm afraid however, it is leaning a bit more toward Game gear (10 mil) levels right now. To save this thing Sony must continue pushing its PS3 & even BETTER PS4 compatibility features, lower memory & console price, and unique must have game experiences utilizing their touch screens.

Just wait till the big games come out.

There are rumors, but no announcements. Probably not until next year so it doesn't affect iPhone5 sales.

Let's assume you are not trolling us. Then you are quite a nice fellow, hoping always for the best without many arguents backing you up. If more devs had the confidence or hopes that you have, both PSV and 3DS would have more games widing the ecosystem of both devices. This would increase the value of handhelds, at the cost of one or another flopping game (due to the fact that they are making games based on hope rather than factibility research.
The thing is that companies seek profitability, and they need to support that on market research and not just on hopes and wishful thinking. Additionally most companies are not in the best financial situation to take risks, look at THQ, or even EA. Ubisoft may be the only big one that appears to 'take risks' but they are banking each year huge amount of money from the Just Dance series, and they canned a 3DS game (the Assasin's Creed one).
So again, no, achieving this milestone won't change the lackluster image that PSV has. A price cut, and a better reception once the games scheduled for Q1 2013, might.
Vita is gonna be good once system sellers start hitting the system, they'll arrive next year, with a new iteration of the system. Vita will be rejuvenated.

Wii : 6 weeks
3DS : 13 weeks
DS : 4 weeks
GBA : 3 weeks
PS2 : 5 weeks
PSP : 14 weeks [edit]
GCN : 17 weeks
X360: 176 weeks
PSV : 43 weeks
That's really something... especially considering Vita launched on the holidays. Really terrible numbers, with no end in sight... only thing in sight right now is even more terrible numbers. Soul Sacrifice NEEDED to come out this holiday. Now they probably gimped the games sales and definitely gimped (or crippled) Vita's end of the year sales.

It would be wiser to wait it to sell another million.
