Forums - Sony Discussion - Kevin Butler Mario Kart Commercial leads to Sony Suing him

Oh, no! Not the fans!

Wait... how does this harm fans, again?

It would make sense if they were suing him for breach of contract, but they're not. It's like they're saying Bridgestone is using the Kevin Butler name and persona (Suing for Trademark Infringement), but in the commercial he's just a fellow employee enjoying a game of Mario Kart.

I mean, what was the man supposed to do? Wear a freaking mask so no one can recognize him? So stupid...

Non-compete clauses are standard in everything. If you buy a restaurant for instance like subway, they make you sign a non compete saying you wont also buy a quiznos. Sony has every right to sue, I just don't like seeing someone get hit with a lawsuit. He dug his own grave, he of all people should have known.

that would make sense if Lambert was working for nintendo, but he wasn't.  He was working for bridgestone and this is a bridgestone commercial.  So what you just said... not relevant.

Are you playing around, or do I have to tell you why?

Besides the fans, this is not an isolated case. Coca-Cola ended a relationship with a Brazilian soccer star Ronaldinho, after he drank from a can of Pepsi during a news conference.

Gaming Console: PLAYSTATION 5

it might have something to do with him playing a rival console game.

I'm pretty upset about this. KB is the man, and should be treated as such.

Seems like Sony is really getting desperate for money these days.

You guys remember that Sony campaign they started I think around 3 years ago at E3? It was about how gamer no matter what their alligiance had only one true love and that it was gaming. And I think at the end Kevin Buttler said something like "all gamer unite" if I remember correctly....

Yeah, so much to that...

What?! I can't hear you over all this awsome! - Pyrrhon (Kid Icarus:Uprising)

Final Ultimate Legendary Earth Power Super Max Justice Future Miracle Dream Beautiful Galaxy Big Bang Little Bang Sunrise Starlight Infinite Fabulous Totally Final Wonderful Arrow...FIRE! - Wonder-Red (The Wonderful101)

And the history of pointless counter productive asshole lawsuits by Sony continues.

Lol instead of saying WHO CARES. Sony drops a cool guy makes some companies its enemy and shows how stupid they can be if they really want to......

Seriously I never was a Sony fan (I owns Sony consoles but I dont really care about Sony) but I liked Kevin Butler.

I dont care if the guy made an ad for another company. Seriously its not like the actor is owned by Sony and If Sony seriously added something like " DO NEVER MAKE ADS THAT IN SOMEWAY INVOLVE OUR COMPETITION EVEN THO WE CONSTANTLY SAID THEY ARE NO COMPETITION BECAUSE WE WILL SUE YOU"

Whats wrong with this world lol.

Another side of the arugement is.

When the Bridgestone/Wii ad came out, EVERYONE instantly said It's Kevin Butler!!!! I seem to recall trying to tell people his name is Jerry Lambert not KB. Why? Because in The advert, they made no attempts to differenciate the Bridgestone character to Kevin Butler. Thereby playing off the clear success of the KB angle without paying any acknowledgement to Sony's IP.

Jerry Lambert plays a character in numerous places, including Holiday Inn ads, that is funny.  They stuff Jerry's unidentified character for the tire ad in a lab jacket, and have him act the way he usually does.  Do VPs of anything wear lab jackets?  Is Bridgestone supposed to run a banner under their ad saying that is NOT Kevin Butler?

Reality is that Sony had more success with Kevin Butler than they imagined, and likely dropped Jerry Lambert because they wanted to save money.  Then, there was backfire later, and they are trying to stop things.

See, you could go and do this... Oh, it is Kevin Butler again, on a road trip!
