seems people just arent that interested anymore, whether it be movies, tvs, 3ds, PS3 etc. I was one of the ones that thought the 3d would make 3DS fly off the shelves, i was wrong.

It's the same stupid fad it's always been, rearing its head about once a decade only for everyone to remember after a few months that it's really not that cool.
same thing that happened last time. It has to many downsides and doesn't make the experience better 90% of the time. Plus the extra cost and the many people that can't watch it for whatever reason and it was bound to fail after the novelty wore off.
It will pop up again in another 30 years

I agree. It's a nice addition and can enhance the gameplay (as we've seen in Super Mario 3D Land) but it's not a selling point. The 3DS makes 3D accessible. The PS3 3D requires a system update, a 3D-enabled TV, and glasses - too many barriers; so it makes sense that PS3 owners didn't warm up to it so much.
Nintendo doesn't have to stress 3D anymore with the 3DS because the system actually has some great software now. So 3D takes a backseat to all the great content - which is how it should be.
For those of you saying it's just a fad, you probably haven't been properly introduced. That's the problem. When I have someone over to check out 3d on my 50" pani, I slide the loveseat up close to the tv, and put on my Imax Under the Sea 3d blu-ray- blows them away every time. For me it's emersion that's important, you have to have it in your face, like the Oculus Rift (which I will be buying). 3D is how we see, you don't walk around with one eye closed, do you? It's natural, 2d is unnatural. I tell people to close one eye and look around the room, then open both eyes.
Hey I'm posting again but do you want to know why 3D is here to stay? 4 out of 5 of the highest grossing films of all time are in 3D. Only 13 movies in history have made over a billion dollars. 4 of them only managed that feat because of being in 3D. Just wanted to share some stats.
Speaking on behalf of the 1 % crowd....
I challenge anyone out there to say to me that Titanic 3D is not incredibly impressive.
I bought a 42" Panasonic 3D TV from Amazon on Aug. 5. Model TC-L42ET5. It includes 4 sets of passive glasses.
It cost me all of $599.
Titanic 3D is ... well, don't take my words for it....see it for yourself.
Especially when the water starts flowing into the ship; or when Cal shoots bullets after the well known protagonists.
Watch these scenes in 3D and then get back to this thread.
As for the future of 3D. I Don't Know.....
But I will say this. No one can take my current 3D away, and I look forward to seeing The Hobbit in 3D.

Adjusted for inflation, the top 13 movies of all-time are 2D.

Don't trust inflation numbers first of all. There is no real way as of yet to determine inflation's impact. Second a producer making a movie doesn't care. Even if gone with the wind did better, he's going to look at Avatar and say "I want that!".
