Forums - Gaming - Best RTS on consoles?

Civilization revolution for me.

This is the Game of Thrones

Where you either win

or you DIE

I liked the first Red Alert.

Red Alert (PS1) by a country mile. Fast paced, tactical, fun, with entertaining single-player and a great skirmish mode.

Honourable mentions:

Warzone 2100 (PS1) - took a great stab at being better than Red Alert, nearly was.

Populous: The Beginning (PS1) - fantastic game, that suffers from horrible slowdown on later levels. Otherwise, it'd probably be my favourite.

Age of Empires 2 (PS2) - faithful recreation that kept all the fun of the original, still great to play today.

Red Alert 3 (PS3/360) - silly amounts of fun, very decent port. Best I've played this generation.

I haven't played Starcraft 64 or Halo Wars, so those two could definitely be up there too.

Was a great game, I played it on PC.  Really should not have been a RTS though, Populous worked better as a god sim.

Yeah, I'd agree with that.  I enjoyed The Beginning for what it was though.  The variety in missions kept it interesting, the way you have enough houses for mana but enough people for soldiers was an interesting dynamic, and I still loved the Populous themes of magic and such.  It was a fun game.

Like I mentioned, just the PS1 version had really really bad slowdown in the later levels when there was a lot of stuff happening, which was a shame!

Glad to see Halo Wars is the majority.

I am perfectly honest when I say that Halo Wars was my favourite game this generation. I say this because I love RTS games but I keep getting beat my the guys who mastered the micro/hotkeys, etc on PC. On 360.....I was just as fast as the opponent, no clicks per minute BS. For once, I had the advantage with my tactics and didnt loose it from not being fast with the keyboard/mouse.

Glad MS released it. I seriously didnt like that news that said Bungie thought Halo Wars was whoring out the franchise. It turned out to be the best selling and just plain best RTS on consoles to date.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

I play a few Strategy games, but most of the are on PC, Halo Wars though was amazing on the 360, they could've easily made a sequel :(

I'm with you on that news regarding Bungie. Being a a fan of the Halo Universe; Halo Wars is a great game and I strongly recommand any Halo fans to play it; great story and cutscenes too :)

Battalion Wars 2 even though it is a hybrid RTS.

1st was better.

Yep, I still need to pick that one up.  Kicking myself for not picking it up for under 10 at a pawn shop about a decade back.  Probably going to cost more now on Amazon.

I loved Pikmin 1 & 2. The "New Play Control" versions >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> originals.

The only other console RTS I played was Halo Wars, and only for a bit on my cousin's X360. I played Red Alert 3 on my PC, I still like RA2 more for some reason.
